Tumbling down the ranks in Rocket League. Infuriatingly because if my team mates being absolutely awful. Playing with randoms is so horrible, most teams we face are in a party. No one I play with ever defends. Ever. It’s soul destroying.

For what is marketed as a relaxing game it is infuriatingly difficult at times, mostly due to the occasionally erratic controls and horribly 'floaty' physics which sometimes render the bike impossible to steer.

When it works however its brilliantly satisfying to find sneaky shortcuts or finish a tricky section without crashing.

It's and odd combination isn't it? That first "explore" route is lovely and relaxing, then you stack some challenges that conflict with one another (essentially fast and not crashing much) and it becomes a totally different beast.

I must say i really like the game though, its got a lovely tone to it. Feels really like it is just a person and their bike and a mountain. Nothing else matters.

I'm a huge Steep fan for the appeal of just making my way down a mountain, do you think I'd like this too? It sounds similar from this and I hadn't heard of it before!

I have not played Steep, but it’s certainly “you vs the mountain” with few distractions. It’s on Game Pass you have access to the ecosystem. It really is lovely and zen.

As for the difficulty, I have found the easy and the normal challenges find to deal with relatively simply - I bail if I am slow on a sector or find a quicker route whilst on a run, it only sets you back to the last checkpoint. Obviously it will be different for everyone though, and appreciate my situation is different to yours. I’m certainly not optimising my runs, just going with my sectors if they feel reasonable.

I got this on Switch today and I'm loving it - it's really really up my street. It's really chill despite the quite punishing challenges (the instant restart really helps) and when you get a good run it's super satisfying. I especially like the free runs with no checkpoints for how unbroken they end up being - it all just flows.

Think I might have to start listening to some of my own music though, it's definitely missing even if I do appreciate the quiet atmosphere!

Glad your enjoying it, its one i will have to go back to at some point. Having music on though? In a game like this? You monster!

Yeah challenging is about right. For first time in ever I've died more than seven times to hunters. Seriously hunters eats up a lot of shotgun ammo, can decap you easier, appear in locations they weren't in originally and they attack very fast... On top of that if they leap, they're invicible. Having three in one location is nightmare.

Didn't help magnum doesn't kill them in one or two shots either

Finally sorted out a way to travel to caverns but I died to spider boss because auto aim keeps getting in way, will have to try again later today but I'm worrying about my supply considering I'm on path to good ending again.

I don't play much of them, but isn't that pretty much the raison d'être of rogue-likes/rogue-lites? That's what puts me off them. It's also what put me off Dark Souls. I died, then had to replay loads of what I'd literally just done. Not my idea of fun.

I don't play much from this genre either, but decided to pick up based on it having pretty much rave reviews across the board. I totally see why as well, but maybe it is just the genre I don't get on with. The last game I played like this was Hollow Knight, and although that at least has a persistent world, I still got bored with it and stopped playing, although the combat in Dead Cells is way more entertaining than HK's was.

Squinty wrote:There's different routes you can take, the game is full of branching paths to different areas. From what I remember, on the first level, there are two routes you can take, three if you have the most recent DLC. It's one of those games where it gives you more chances to succeed with the more time you put into it (the cells unlock helpful permanent upgrades).

You get permanent ability unlocks from exploring, this includes a wall jump. I can't remember where you find that one though.

I get that there's different routes, but either way, you play through the same levels in the same order over and over again by the looks of it. Maybe it changes up when you beat the boss, but he seemed hard as nails and I've only managed to reach that stage once so far, so so knows how long it's going to take for me to actually beat it.

I've not seen much in the way of permanent upgrades so far. All the health and damage buffs are temporary, and most of what I can see as persistent upgrades are things that let you carry over money, or randomise your starting weapons, nothing to actually make yourself more powerful.

Yeah, pretty much. They are procedurally generated, so they are different layouts.

You can upgrade your flask, with in turn gives you more a chance to get through the game as you have more drinks to heal. Plus you can unlock character perks which help you through the game. You can assign three of these per playthrough. Some of them are pretty useful when stacked.

It's fairly easy on the first difficulty level. The higher ones are strawberry floating mental. A standard playthrough takes like an hour, tops.

Finally got around to finishing off Borderlands 3 and overall the story was fine some decent beats but a lot less Meme filled than i was anticipating after going through 2. And although the calypso twins were fun at first woth the whole Streamer deal by the end i kinda got sick of their douchey dude bro attitude

So, got pro controller and new joy-cons for switch (the left was drifting) and last week fired up Breath of the Wild on the Switch (had it since launch). I was playing it and LOVING it but now my daughter who has ignored it in favour of Minecraft, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing has become obsessed. She's mad about the game now, has al manor of armour and gubbins and giant horse that warps in and she's onto the 4th animal boss things already. Fair play I suppose, not bad going for a 9 year old to add to her 700 or so moons in Odyssey..

I really can’t wait for this to come to console. It’s the first time I have felt left out for years (PCVR not withstanding).

I don't think the specifications are that demanding, might be able to run it on a normal laptop without gaming level hardware.

Still plugging away at this, onto Area 3 now and I am still enjoying it. Only playing it in small bite sized chunks which might not be the ideal way to play these sorts of games.

Still going through this, got 14 Metroid left according to the counter and I’m on area 4. I’ll probably start another game this week to break up the Metroid.

Okami (Switch) - Catcall tower - Does it really need to be so strawberry floating ridiculously massive? About 23 hours in now and still enjoying it. It's had some great little moments and the dungeon design has been spot on. Some good boss fights as well.

Final Fantasy III (Steam). Making decent progress in this. I lifted a curse placed on a village, upgraded my airship, destroyed my airship breaking through a boulder, visited some gnomes, saved some vikings from a sea monster and was gifted a boat for doing so.

Still not sure exactly what is going on in the overall story. It seems to have an anime like structure thus far with each town having it's own little problem to be solved. I assume as the game progresses things will start coming together as right now it seems to be "here are some character classes to play around with, now crack on".

Final Fantasy IX (PC).

Never played it before so have no idea what to expect, not sure about the super deformed look of the characters, I prefer the slightly more realistic look of FFVIII and the most recent FF's.

Playing this at the moment. I have to agree about the characters, but the game is strawberry floating great. The quality of life improvements make it way better. It's a crazy tale.

Just started The Surge 2 on PS4. Its enjoyable so far. Love the dismemberment mechanic and the combat.

Game is a little choppy but it's still pretty in its own way.

Wish my image sig would work

I don't like the ATB system, even when its set to wait the enemies still seem to carry out their turn while I'm trying to navigate the action menu.

Isn't that just the ATB system being set to Active rather than Wait?

Been a really long time since I played any FF, but I seem to recall that being a thing in the PS1 FFs.

I downloaded What the Golf? today and I love how brilliantly weird it is. I've only played a little of it so far and I've loved it so far. The little nods to pop culture here and there are adorable (pretty sure I saw one of the gigantic heads from Rick and Morty in the background at one point). Haven't had a go at the multiplayer part yet but so far it's a great little fun game!

Wait only kicks in whenever you actually go into the sub menus (like magic, sword arts, items etc).

I can see what Ironhide is talking about there, because it caught me off guard as well. Might be different in the other FF games on the PS1 though, I can't really remember.
