Didn’t like the aesthetics or the soundtrack, the latter of which I thought was belting.

The music is amazing! Instant ear worm. I can see how the aesthetics could split opinion. They are certainly in line with any screenshots you may have seen though!

Its a little too upbeat and 'inspirational' for my liking.

Aesthetically, I don't particularly mind the early 90's look everything has.

My main problem is that the first case was so dull I couldn't be bothered playing any further than that.

Started playing Outer Wilds, which is pretty pretty great in terms of its design and exploration however the controls are pretty clunky and I hate not being able to save when I want.

Made a good bit of progress in Star Ocean First Departure this evening. The difficulty is starting to increase a little now so I think I need to level up a bit more before moving on.

As well as Persona 4 Golden I've been playing Yakuza 0 again on the side, this time on PC. I'm enjoying it more this time but I am missing some of the combat refinements Kiwami 1 had - like being able to instantly switch styles in certain circumstances. Felt that made a huge different. It's not as fun changing styles when it's kind of slow and the music jarringly changes completely. Been looking for mods to change that but with no luck.

Mario Kart Double Dash
All Mario Kart games have cheating AI, but I've never seen a game cheat so blatantly as this. You can actually see the rules being broken in front of you as the game conspires to keep races close and to strawberry float you over. It's almost funny because of how predictable and obvious it is.

Sleeping Dogs
I've only just started this, but I really like it so far. Combat's good, missions are varied and enjoyable, music's nice...looking forward to playing more.

Such a good game.

It does all the open world staples so much better than a lot of big name rivals, and the focus on hand to hand combat is so much more refreshing than the usual heavy weapons arms race you see elsewhere. The martial arts unlocks system is perfectly realised, too.

More games need to do the kind of executions Sleeping Dogs has. Some of them are so painful looking.

Just started Stranded Deep.

Ive always liked the idea of a survival game in theory but in practice haven't.

For games that are supposed to be going for a realistic experience I always find it irratating/frustrating that it's only a very short time period before and lack of food is an issue and then kills you.

This seems to get the balanced right for me. It also gives you a good idea of what you can craft, why and what you need.

There also seems to be an ultimate objective which I assume is to somehow escape. For those that don't know you've crashed landed in a clustet of tropical islands - so it's also quite a nice setting, think the original far cry.

I can see myself putting a lot of time into this.

You're lucky I've taken a break from the game, but now I'm being persuaded to get back to it ;)

When i beat one of your scores, i could have just ended the feat there and then, but instead i kept increasing the score for as long as possible just to be bloody minded.

I really need to play this again. Not often I play games twice these days, let alone thrice! The fact that I'm considering it is testament to its high quality. :datass:

8-)

I think i did one or two others like that too, including parachute drifting and tumbling in ragdoll mode.

Started West Of Dead (Game Pass). I'm quite enjoying it. The cover based combat makes it feel a bit different from most Rogue Likes (a genre i am not a fan of tbh). It seems bloody difficult though. The permanent unlocks will help with progress i guess, but that then begs the question of whether you are really getting better at the game, or is it simply getting easier by design. The answer is probably "both", which i guess is no bad thing. It just feels a bit weird to me.

Performance seems to be.... variable, and lots of the time the camera is obstructed slightly. Also the interstitial bits are slightly annoying when you just want to get on with your next run. And the blue teleport type things plain don't work (i'm assuming that's what they are supposed to be).
I can see it being a much better game a couple of patches down the road. But its worth checking out!

Still dicking around with some casual speed running in Doom (93), managed to get my times up for E1M1 on the leaderboards now and it just makes me want to try and get higher now!

I'm currently joint 56th in the UV Speed category and 11th in the UV Max one, but the numbers of active players are small so that isn't particularly impressive!
