Hades

Getting better with the shield (not fully charging Bull Rush = lava zone is easier to get through. Though I still managed to lose both revives on its - upgraded - boss ) and so I managed to get to 3rd zone with it. And then I did something incredibly dumb:

I should have taken one of the two exits. Instead, I opted for the Treasure Trove challenge in the hopes of getting back to maximum health – even though I was at decent health already. My thinking being I would need as much HP as possible for the boss fights to come. It was very dumb. As was not killing asap the invincibility casting blue crystal mob thing. O well. At least I have a better handle of the shield.

Doom (VR, Oculus Quest Sideload). Wild and terifying. In equal parts. Playing with the meatgrinder mod and Maps of Chaos map pack. There is blood EVERYWHERE.
Also, its great that i can be playing fundamentally the same game as i was 27 years ago and still get my kicks from it

Hades

:toot: Elysium bested. Thanks to all my lives being replenished before the main event  And I still almost strawberry floated it up. (By end of the fight I had only one extra 4 lives remaining and less than a third of HP.) On the plus side, I managed to beat it with the spear, thanks to having a better understanding of how the enemies there behave. And getting lucky with upgrades, of course.

Good lord the difficulty in Dark Souls 2: Crown of the Sunken King never lets up. I thought I was finally making good progress having opened up a shortcut or two, picking up a bunch of items and finding a sneakily hidden bonfire but then I found Cave of the Dead... as if the big pillar that turns you to stone almost instantly wasn't bad enough the boss you meet there can strawberry float right off!

I started Resi 7 earlier. Made it through the first bit in the house and then started the second section and promptly got myself murdered repeatedly (well, dismembered, at least). Does the whole game have you being stalked by the old man, Nemesis-style? Saw there were achievements for finding all the collectibles and stuff but I can't say I like the idea of searching for them if the game is like "YOU'VE SPENT TOO LONG IN THIS ROOM FUCKEN DIE"

Already missed a note because I read the picture when I picked it up rather than clicking A to show the transcribed text, which is irritating in itself  At least it's not a massive hassle to replay the first bit again.

That's a relief. Thanks! Will play through the house again tomorrow and then see if I can do the dinner section any better :slol: Already used all my healing items

Yakuza 4 HD - PS4

Back to what appears to be the only game series I like anymore, and it's an interesting start, a couple of hours in and no Kiryu in sight, playing as a totally different character for now, at least, who had more of a personality than scowling all the time like Kiryu does. I have a soft spot for these kinds of PS3 games; it's hard to describe what about the detailed yet basic geometry and lighting appeals, I guess it's that awful term "soul".

You're collecting the three heads of the dog? If you route it properly you can knock Jack out of chasing you fairly quickly by going to the basement and fighting him. Then go and get the second and third ones at your leisure.

I'm on the dog section now. It was just that first bit following the dinner that I was a bit "oh god are you kidding" because he cornered me in the first corridor and broke my leg off and I was like "oh I can't spend the next ten hours this stressed" :slol:

Did the basement fight and now I'm after one more head and a shotgun and it seems to have settled down a bit. Not sure how long that'll last for, though!

I'm dabbling in some MMO's ever since I got my SSD drive. I didn't play Destiny 2 that much so can't tell if it's making a difference to the loading times, I think it is as nothing seemed to be long at all but I'm not sure. Either way I'm enjoying it, I haven't a f**king clue whats going on with the story and other stuff but i presume ill get it after a while. It's DLC hits Gamepass on Tuesday so ill have that at least. I think it's population will explode on Xbox from then. It seems to be VERY dark, I can't tell if my HDR settings are wrong or what but it's just all very VERY dark. I'll dabble more tonight to see if I can fix it.

I've also given Fallout 76 some time and I'm really enjoying it, the SSD for this game (and I presume this engine cos Skyrim is similar) is a massive improvement. We're talking maybe 10 seconds from title screen to game! I'm playing it like a normal Fallout game and the only give away that I'm online is the occasional bit of random gunfire in the distance and when I clear out a place and remain in it for 20mins or so, things respawn but other than that the NPC's added and storyline/side quests are a welcome addition. Looks gorgeous at times as well. I can't tell if they've changed the sound track but the music that plays when just walking about is incredible, really REALLY good.

Hunt Showdown has added Trials, and it's addictive as hell. Some of them are very hard but the snipey head shot ones and timed A to B things are enjoyable. It makes everything better as the game still looks incredible.

Finally picked up Red Dead Redemption 2 on the PC, played through the tutorial snow section which to be honest felt like it dragged a little bit too long but now I'm in the open world and camped just outside the first town Valentine. Really enjoying it so far, trying to stick to doing all the missions available rather than going out free-roaming. I always find in games like GTA etc when I go off into the open world I just go on a rampage, get lost and then just turn off the game. Keeping to the missions is getting me engrossed into the game itself already and I'm really enjoying it.

One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 - PS4

I was going to get this on switch but the amount of enemies on screen, giant enemies and effects means it runs terribly. So I went for the PS4 version and season pass.

Brilliant game so far. They changed the classic Musou controls to add a dash button and 4 special attacks. Works a lot better. They've also made it so you can switch out special moves with a character and choose the ones you want. And they've added air attacks and juggles.

I don't watch the TV show but it's still making sense. Just very over the top. Crazy characters and designs. A perfect setting for a warriors game.

Wish my image sig would work

If you ever get curious about the comics, you can get a monthly sub to Viz/ShonenJump Online for a little under or over £3 and that'll give you access to the whole of One Piece and whole lot more besides. (A paid for sub gets you the whole current and back catalogue of whatever comics are on there, free sub lets you read latest 3 issues of everything on there.) I only started reading them because of lockdown and I now find myself on chapter 682! They really are very good.

Hades (PC)

Third attempt on what I am assuming is the final boss. Let's just say I did much better on 2nd attempt.

EGS now has achievements :o

Thanks, I'm going to watch the latest movie and see if I can get into it. The character design is so good and unlike anything I've seen before.

Yeah, I know what you mean. You have characters like Zolo who are pretty standard fare, slight oddballs like Luffy and then complete deep end dives like Franky, Chopper and Brook.

I've not seen the anime or any of the films. Gonna try and stay behind the manga as much as possible (I don't ever want to catch up and have to wait a week or two for all of ONE chapter!) until I know it's coming to an end.

I've tried to get into 2 of the games: OP: Pirate Warriors 3 and OP: Unlimited World Red Deluxe Edition, but found them to be lacking in various ways. Hopefully someone will do a fully fledged OP action RPG one day.

That was my first R&C game and I loved it. I tried playing the earlier games on PS Now but the Vaseline smeared res is just too much to get over. I hope they get remastered one day.

Still The Witcher 3, finally invested my haul of perk points into the skills I’ve naturally been using the most (plus a couple to boost the play style I seem to be going for with the ursine armour/bear school). I’m just at the start of the Skellige plot line but I’ve gone back to Novigrad/Velen to mop up some more Witcher contracts. When I’m back in Skellige I’ll be getting the upgrades for the ursine gear so I can upgrade it as I hit the required level (and hopefully the items needed won’t be too hard to get for the later levels).
