You're so cruel

Playing as Freddy, I let one player survive today and they thanked me by walking through a line of dream snares

DiRT 4
This is really good in terms of the driving, but strawberry floating hell, it's such a slog. Take a Rally X event as an example - you start the event, and you're then locked into 5 smaller race events, with 6 races in each, and 4-6 laps per race. Who thought this was a good idea? I like the mix of events, and the different driving styles, but the relative lack of courses across the game and the massively drawn out and restricted career mode makes it such hard work. Would be so much better if you could pick specific races of differing types to dip in and out of, rather than be locked into whatever event you've picked with no choice but to see it through to the end.

Oblivion
I'd played this before but never really got into it properly or bothered to follow the main quest, so I thought I'd give it another go. I'd forgotten how enjoyable it was to explore in the Elder Scrolls games, just wandering around, finding huge caverns or dungeons, and getting lost in numerous side quests and just exploring the landscape. It still looks really good in places, despite the diabolical frame rate. It feels like the music is more prominent compared to Skyrim, which works well as you're exploring. I was having a lot more fun with this than I expected, and was properly engrossed in it, right up until I became a vampire. strawberry floating hell. Talk about completely killing your enjoyment of a game. The way this happens, with no explanation, no hints as to where to go or what to do or how to prevent it, and then suddenly you're strawberry floated because you can't go outside, nobody will trade with you, and your health drains in literal seconds if you're in sunlight. I then had to look up online how to cure vampirism, and of course it's the most drawn out, painfully slow and tedious set of quests and objectives you can imagine. The fact you can't travel properly or buy items makes it even worse. Not sure why they seemed so intent on punishing the player in that way, but safe to say it pissed me off and killed my enjoyment of the game. I've only just started to get back into it.

I don't remember vampirism being that much of a problem in Oblivion, I seem to recall it gave you some pretty cool buffs as well as having some negative aspects?

You know you can feed on sleeping people to revert the vampirism back to it's basic state where you don't have problems like not being able to fast travel right?

Losing your health during the day is a MAJOR negative aspect to be fair.

Yes but you only start losing it if you leave Vampirism unchecked for 24 hours - every time you drink someone's blood you reset yourself to the "day 1" vampire state where you don't lose health in the sun.

The benefits are substantial as well: resistance to frost, enhanced speed, boost to magical powers etc.

Well I play Elder Scrolls games mostly as an assassin with a bow and love to have a wander about and prefer the day so even having some sort of timer to go drink blood annoyed me. I got cured sharpish, I can't remember how but if you google it, it's not too hard.

Yeah the cure isn't that hard to achieve (and also you do get a 3 day warning before you contract Vampirism where I think you just have to visit any altar and it will remove it)

I did like this element of the game though - IMO it's a nice twist that makes the player pay attention and potentially have to adapt to their circumstances changing

Got it in one. The career goes on forever! I enjoyed it, but it is a slog.

Playing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order through Game Pass and really enjoying it so far, although I have a feeling I might not enjoy the second half so much as it seems like it will all be going back through planets I've already visited. Not sure I'll ever get bored of deflecting blaster shots back at storm troopers though!

Too much new gaming to be had today/tomorrow!

Got the All Kill DLC for Dead By Daylight, Hitman 3 Greed DLC and, of course, Disco Elysium.

That's some good gaming for the bank holiday :datass:

What took you longer, Zone Zeus or Beat Zico?

Doom Eternal - XsX part way through the third mission and it’s a lot of fun, seems to be a lot of upgrading options which I can’t remember the 2016 Doom having. Looks great on the Series X, runs well and loading is super quick.

Minecraft Dungeons - NSW Unlocked the third difficulty now (Apocalyptic? Something like that) I really am enjoying this  I need to play some online at some point. Plan is to run through all the levels again on this difficulty and then buy the season pass.

Not sure which took longer as I’ve been playing this game on & off for an eternity. I feel Zone Zeus was easier (not that easy!) once they released the Fury DLC. I got it on Syncopia track.

As for the Zico trophy, that gave me a headache. Watched a load of tutorials on when & where to side shift to shave a few seconds off here & there.

I love it when you get in the zone on a rally stage in Sweden or something and you're just 'on it' for 6-7 mins, driving perfectly and not overthinking things. Feels really good.
I think I'm going to have a break from it for a while and come back to it though. I'm 35 hours in and not even close to finishing. :dread:

Re: the comments on Oblivion, I knew you could feed on people as a vampire, but that wasn't really what I wanted to do and didn't fit with how I was trying to do my playthrough. I honestly can't remember how it worked in Skyrim, but I think it was different to Oblivion. It just felt quite punitive and was quite a long slog to get the cure, made all the more difficult by not being able to buy items or move around freely. Oh well, it's done now, and I'm trying to get on with the main quest. It's...not great, but not bad either.

Currently playing W40K: Inquisitor - Martyr. Is there another fictional world which is more nightmarish to imagine inhabiting than Warhammer 40K?

Oh man, that's a good trick, I need to give her a go now.

I've been enjoying tricking people with Freddy's generator warping move. Get close enough so that when you begin warping and they scatter, they run right towards you thinking you're back at the generator. It's a lot of fun.

Decided to play through all the Dead Space games as I like getting sad about franchises sent out to die before their time.

I am strawberry floating loving the first game, probably more than I even remember from the first time round. It's not quite as scary as I remember, it's 99% jump scares, but the atmosphere is still strawberry floating rad (loving the random whispers and heart-beat elements to the sound design). It also looks excellent still, probs due to the brilliant art design and animations.

I do remember it being a little too long, but I'm still well into it.
