The Longing

This has to be one of the most zen games I've played in ages. It's got some idle mechanics, but there's so far always been some more exploring or whatever to get on with, and it's just such a chilled out game. The time mechanic is such a great manifestation of the narrative theme of the game, making it really satisfying to jump in, explore the caves at a leisurely pace, and really take your time soaking up the mood, before returning home to check out your new decorations.

If anyone hasn't played this yet and is considering it, go in knowing as little as possible, and don't look anything up as you go. Just accept that it's slow paced, and in time, you'll find what you need and how to get it.

Will do. I don't remember killing an 'innocent', but apparently that's the requirement for the guy from the Dark Brotherhood to come visit you (which he has done) so I must've inadvertedly killed someone. :slol:

Still doing the Oblivion gates. :fp:

There's Kvatch, Bruma, Chorrol, Anvil, Bravil, and I'm assuming there's at least two more in the two other cities I need to recruit help from. Trying to do other quests in between to break up the tedium. Think I've put 45 hours into the game so far, which is crazy, as it feels like about half of that.

I'm enjoying this. Not too much to say other than it's a good puzzler and satisfying to progress through.

The 2nd and 3rd games are really good too, haven't played the latest two though (one's VR only and I haven't bought the other yet).

Yeah I actually bought the second and third games at the same time as the first, think it was some kind of bundle where they were insanely cheap, and they all had good reviews, so thought it was worth a punt. I'm enjoying it for sure.

The orc who asks you to kill him during the arena fight counts as an "innocent". Maybe that's why the Dark Brotherhood contacted you?

Still loving MGS V, although part of me thinks if an obviously unfinished game is this good, just how good could it have been if things did not go tits up between Kojima and Konami.

I kind of hope the rumours of a remake for MGS and remasters for the others are true as I really want to go back to them now. This is just reminding me how much I love them and this insane/epic story that spans over 50 years. MGS3 in particular might just be my favourite game of all time. It nailed the idea of showing us what made the villain turn, and it was around the same time the final Star Wars prequel film came out, which I thought did a terrible job of trying to do the same thing. On top of that, the fight with the Boss is probably my favourite boss fight in any game.

After over twenty years I've finally completed Diddy Kong Racing. Final boss and Future Funland silver coin challenges are easy once you've unlocked TT.

Such a good game, I've lost count of how many times I've played through it.

Got a few games on the go still at the moment...

Oblivion
I've finally completed the main quest on this. It was...okay. The Oblivion gates were absolute rubbish though, as I've mentioned many times. :slol: I think I did 8 of them in total, all as part of the main quest line, and I just can't imagine why they thought they were fun or a good idea to make them so repetitive and similar. The final battle was quite cool though, although the numbers of enemies were actually ridiculous. At several points I pretty much became trapped in some areas because I was just swarmed by so many enemies that I couldn't move or jump. :fp:

I went to the Arena after completing the main quest, which I get the feeling I should've done much earlier in the game. I blitzed through the whole thing, barely losing any health along the way. An absolute piece of piss. I think I'm going to take a break for a bit now, having put about 55 hours into the game, but will come back at some point and do the Dark Brotherhood quests, maybe the Thieves' Guild, some more exploring, and I've got the two expansions to do as well.

The Room
Progressing through this nicely, but I have to be in the right mood. I get pretty absorbed with it when I'm playing though.

Jydge
I've just started this. Looks fairly nice, the soundtrack's pretty good, and there seem to be plenty of options for upgrades. Some of the conditions for unlocking stages seem a bit tight, but it's perhaps too early to really judge (ha). I've enjoyed my first hour or so with it though.

Marvel Avengers
Thought I'd get this cleared off my backlog as I know the single player campaign isn't too long. Feels like a button mashy Uncharted; but, i'm enjoying it for what it is. The production values and the characterisation (especially Kamala) are pretty great .

Streets of Rage 4
Playing through this in co-op with my son; don't think it'll take too long to finish, but we're having a helluva lot of fun. The only disappointing thing is he won't let me be Adam :(; he seems to be the best character from what I've seen so far.

Adam is extremely versatile but they're all fun to play as.

American McGee's Alice
strawberry floating hell, this is awful. I sat down to play Alice: Madness Returns, and realised that the original (I didn't know there was an original) was included too, so I thought I might as well start with it. It's genuinely one of the worst games I've played in a long time. The controls are terrible, the collision detection is horrendous, and it feels half-finished. The voice acting ranges from okay to laughable in terms of the delivery, but it's the pacing that's the worst thing - it's like the voice actors didn't know what punctuation is, and completely ignored it when reading their lines.
So many aspects of the game have me questioning who played it and thought "yep, this is good", whether it's the huge delay in jumping, the floaty controls, the feeling of detachment when it comes to combat, the complete lack of explanation as to what anything is and what anything does...I could go on. What's even more baffling is how well it seems it reviewed at the time - loads of high scores that I just can't see the justification for. I think I need to go looking for the 'Last game you gave up on and your reasons...' topic.

I’ve just started RE8 today, not very far into it yet. I’ve found a couple of items to unlock a gate. I’m liking it so far but it seems pretty tough. I kinda get the impression the game will be somewhat hub based with a fair bit of backtracking once you have the right stuff.

The only one I'm not as keen on is Axel. His range just feels a bit limited.

Got loads of stuff to be playing on Game Pass and in general, but I can’t help but find myself playing Sword/Shield again to finish off my solo run, I know in some aspects its not the best game in the series but it is incredibly addictive to me. I’m almost tempted to get the DLC for Sword as well so I can grind out another full set of Legendary Pokémon from the dynamax adventures before they slowly die down when the new Pokémon games release later this year. I really should start using some of my duplicate Legendary Pokémon to try and get the few mythical ones I’m missing (11 by my count, 12 including Melmetal which Is a pain to evolve as you can only do it through Go).

I'm really having a blast with this. I've completed it now in the sense that I've seen the credits, but there's still plenty to unlock and have a go at. Usually I hate going through games or levels again with only the difficulty being changed, but I like it here because the levels are so short and the objectives and challenges are varied (ish). Lovely stuff.

Played a few more hours of RE8 this evening, I’m making slow but steady progress. Just finished the first major area, I’m enjoying just taking my time and exploring every nook and cranny for supplies and treasure.

The Legend of Zelda: The Missing Link

An absolutely incredible OoT mod that bridges the gap between Ocarina and Majora's Mask. It's only about 3 hours long with two dungeons, but the amount of work that's been put in is clear as day. You wouldn't have much trouble convincing me this was a genuine Nintendo product.

I played Resident Evil 2 Remake for the first time in two years yesterday and upon loading I was given an infinite ammo rocket launcher. Apparently I now have a "reward items DLC". Did they give this away free? I didn't pay for it.

It's annoying when you get left behind but it's all part of the experience. There's no law that you have to work together and I've been in games before where someone has clearly alerted the killer to my general position in order to save their own skin. You can easily be a betraying bastard if that's your style. It's all good fun.

Been dabbling in a few games on Switch at the moment

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World (NSW)
Great fun this, I really enjoyed it back in the 360 days but I’m putting more time into it on Switch thanks to the portability. Tough as nails at times tho and I’m only playing on Average Joe difficulty.

Lonely Mountain Downhill (NSW)
This is a great game to pick up and play for 10 minutes, jumping into a Daily Run to give it a go and see how I go, still need to unlock everything in the main game tho such as the last 2 mountains.

FIFA 21 (NSW)
It’s FIFA, not much to say but I love having it portable so I can have a quick match every now and then.
