I think the opening level of Left Alive is brilliant and shows so much promise, and then you get out into the city proper and it just goes downhill from there. Luring soldiers into improvised traps, seeing their AI become wary and not fall for the same move twice though? That was very cool.

Desperados 3. I think if you like this kind of game, you'll get a lot out of it. Nice setting, humour etc.

I'm just not getting it. Throws too much at you to learn in the first few minutes, i.e. too many button presses. Switched it off, realised I probably won't remember them even by tomorrow, and so just deleted it. I think I prefer either out and out turn based strategy games, or out and out stealth / adventure games.

But, I'd imagine if the game style is second nature to you, you'll be like a duck to water and love it. I just don't have the patience.

Bought Lumines Remastered last week and I've rinsed it. Only got a few more trophies to go before I get the platinum. It's been a blast.

Just got into the world's top 40 ranking after my first go on "shuffle" :datass: Only two trophies to go.

Rayman Legends
I'm nearly at the end of this, in that I've seen the credits and am just trying to unlock all the levels and characters. I think I like it less than Origins overall, but it's still excellent in almost every department.

Steamworld Heist
Still enjoying this, although I'm not sure how long the game is. It kind of feels like it might be starting to come to an end already, when part of me thinks that it's barely got going yet. I'll see though, I could be wrong. I like the customisation options for loadouts and the different characters, and the music, visuals, and character design is great.

Oblivion
The Oblivion gates are spoiling this for me - they're just unvelievably dull. I want to get through the main quest, but my enthusiasm is killed every time I have to do one of these. I've only done a handful but they're just awful. Such a constrast to the rest of the game which is really good.

I believe there are only 4 in the main quest and one of them is optional. You can just ignore the rest in the world.

Oh, well that's a relief to hear. I'm only doing the mandatory ones, and I think this might be the third or fourth one I've done, so hopefully I'm done with them, or near enough. The latest one is easily the worst, so hopefully it's the last. :dread:

You'll very much know which one is the last one!

They are a cool concept so it's a shame about the execution.

Out of interest (because Legends is an all-timer for me, one of my favourite platformers - or even just games - ever) what makes Origins better for you? Just the novelty factor of being first or something else? I prefer the shaded tones of the graphical update in Legends, and loved the inclusion of so many Origins levels (which felt legitimately different in feel so appreciated). Is there something else Legends loses?

Edit p.s. because I haven't played Origins but assumed it'd just be a regression, but maybe not!

I don't necessarily think Origins is better, just that I prefer it slightly I think. They're both brilliant and on a par with each other probably, but Legends is really just more of the same. There's a lot of stuff I don't really care for (multiplayer, unlockable characters, challenges, levels from Origins) and if I remove those, the only real addition or new interesting thing is the music levels (which are really great). I guess it just feels a bit iterative, and I think I like the worlds (as in themes, etc) and overall structure (menus, level objectives, level length) a bit less too.

I had been playing Death Stranding, having decided to give it a chance after hearing a lot of praise for it on a particular gaming podcast. I can see why it proved so divisive, as it's easy to see how people could both love or hate the mechanics and basic gameplay loop. Having done a lot of the deliveries in the second chapter and reached the boat I'm probably going to call it quits as I'm already finding it a little repetitive and don't imagine I'd see it to completion. While not for me it is a beautiful game and it can be quite satisfying loading up and making a successful delivery. The shared world aspects of using and liking other users contructions is also a cool touch.

Having stepped away from Death Stranding I've started FFVII Remake which is enjoyable so far, although I'm only around an hour or so in. I never played the original so similarly to the RE2 Remake which I played recently, I don't have that previous experience for comparisons sake. It looks great and I'm enjoying the battle mechanics, even if I probably need to get better at blocking!

Been playing a bit of Monster Hunter World but I can't see myself sticking with it as it just isn't clicking with me. I might actually be done with it already. It just isn't doing anything that interests me :(

I hated the Oblivion gates too, my strategy was to make a mad dash towards the exit, occasionally keeping the odd weapon drop from enemies I couldn't avoid fighting along the way.

In around 300 hours of play I never completed the main quest, I did however complete all the Shivering Isles DLC.

Playing through Katana Zero. It's very trial and error, and I'm finding it frustrating as hell at points. But I think I'm near the end of it, so I'll press on.

Tried Fortnite again and I'm really enjoying it now. Quite an addictive game.

Also picked up Strange Brigade and it's a fun and very quirky little team based shooter.

Disco Elysium. I'm kind of bummed out because I dont think i will ever play a game this good again. I'm doing my best to savour it.
Someone please confirm what i think i already know - it holds up well to repeated playthroughs right?

Playing on the PS5 is my third playthrough and I'm still loving it. I'm even planning my 4th go and I'm thinking I'll play as a completely violent, aggressive cop. I might even try and get Kim to hate me, as painful as that will be!

It's been really interesting seeing my wife play it too. She's approached some situations very differently to me so it's been quite surprising seeing new dialogue unique to her style.

That’s great to hear. I’m playing a shot away, trying to go straight cop obsessed with the paranormal and lacking any self confidence. It’s amazing how the thought cabinet keeps generating appropriate responses / suggestions.

The only negatives for me are the long load times (PS4 Pro) and i have now had 3 crashes, one of which also deleted my autosave. Thankfully i had saved manually only 15 minutes earlier, but it is a shame that you have to cross your fingers every time a load screen pops up.

Interestingly, the crashes mean you get a chance to play a very small part of the game over again, but slightly different for comparison. For instance, my character took speed the first time i did a section, but did not when i replayed it immediatly after. I therefore got to see some perception benefits, namely items in the game world i could pick up and also sounds that were emitted form a distance as flavour text during a conversation.

Will almost certainly rebuy it on Series X when it comes out on that.

Playing PokeMMO right now and damn this is great! Got it on my PC, tablet and phone and it'll keep my progress between them all :D Also added some mods to have the 3DS sprites. Feels like going back to a good Pokemon where it was actually difficult.

Really enjoying Plants Vs Zombies Battle for Neighbourvile, very fun little shooter. There's plenty of content here, the entire game is playable offline with no micro transactions. The multiplayer is pretty fun, feels a bit like a child friendly Battlefield at times. And it's a decent little Switch port, the frame rate is a bit iffy but it certainly looks the part especially as it's the first Frost Bite engine game on the system.
