Not sure whether to put this in here or not but I spent the last two hours solid on Geometry Wars Galaxies on Wii. Picked up from Morrisons at the weekend for £6 and my word it's something special. It shouldn't work though. The pointer should be shite and the graphics should be on an upscaling machine but my god, the controls are perfect, the visuals have a retro chic look to them and the soundtrack is awesome :wub:

I found the Galaxies part a bit easy but the Retro Evolved section is strawberry floating insane :mrgreen:

The Wii looks passable now through Component, but when it was plugged in through the Scart it look awful. Let me know how it looks if you do get it though. I might pick one up, as even though we've got 3 NESs in the house, none of them actually work :fp:

What's up with them? In many cases it's usually a very simple repair job to get old NES's working - the most common problem is a "flashing screen" and is usually an artifact of the 72 pin connector needing repaired or replaced.

Feckin' doddle to swap it out for a new one. Slightly more awkward to rebend the pins back into position.

I played quite a bit of Geo Wars Galaxies *checks Nintendo Channel for game time*.

The insane number of unlockable stages and skills took more away from the game than they added.

I'm not really sure what's wrong with our NES's, they just don't seem to work

If I get time, I'll have a look inside and see what's going on, so that site might come in handy

Just started to play Final Fantasy 7 again (On the PSP this time) I'd forgotten how slowly it starts. Just got to Sector 7 (I think). Tifa's been kidnapped or something...
Hopefully I'll be able to understand the story a bit better this time through, I was completely baffled by what was going on by like... the second disc last time.

Vagrant Story on PSP. I'm very early in, just beaten the first boss and opened up the chaining ability. Enjoying it so far. The ambience is fantastic and quite unique. I've not played another game that evokes its time period quite so richly.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Given the Wii VC sale on Mega Drive games, I had to pick (yet another) version of this up. Funny how the somewhat miffed feelings of it being the 50Hz version swept away after five minutes or so, and I just began to enjoy the game for the classic it is. To be honest, the game is still pretty nippy, the bigger problem perhaps is the music slowed down, generally for the worse. Saying that, I think the boss themes sound more epic at this tempo, more 'grand' you could say.

But damn, this is what gaming's all about for me. Side scrolling action, catchy soundtrack, colourful and appealing visuals, good sense of speed (slightly less so here but still present!), fun and timeless gameplay...love it!

Skate or Die (VC) yesterday, it's well fun. :wub:

Downloaded Super Castlevania tonight. It's awesome, but I think I'll have to download one of the NES ones tomorrow.

Do so! All three are worth it, though grab a guide if you want to go through 2. Castlevania's become one of my favourite franchises in recent times :mrgreen:

I'll have to get these games too. I will have to use guide though as I'm goddamn awful at these sort of games and I always got lost :fp:

But i need to finish Super Metroid first too, which it looks like I'll use guide for... :shifty:

Currently playing Secret Of Mana.

I was playing Final Fantasy IX but my early '96 era PS1 couldn't read the strawberry floating disc.

If you've got an old PSP, it's pretty easy to emulate FFIX on there. And as you've already got the discs, it's kind of legal :shifty:

I don't have a PSP, but I'm not even playing on a legit copy. I downloaded the ISOs a couple weeks ago. My first PS1 was chipped in about '98/'99 and has been struggling ever since. I'm amazed I've got as far as I have, but last night it packed up. It couldn't even read my retail version of FF7.
