That tweet they put out is pretty disappointing to read, I see that "joke" so often and roll my eyes every time. I've noticed CDPR try way too hard to appear hip with their social media channels so hopefully it's just some dickhead thoughtlessly posting it thinking "those idiots who speak in memes will eat this up". I mean, that still doesn't excuse how insensitive and stupid a thing it was to say, but I really don't want to believe it's indicative of the culture of one of my favourite developers being shite.

TBF it's better than the usual "sorry you were offended" apologies.

That's not to say it was good

It's not far off from being exactly that though! It puts the accountability of there being a situation or controversy on those who might have been offended or felt harmed, rather than the person who posted the tweet in the first place.

Does it admit their being at fault for posting the original message? Does it suggest the original tweet shouldn't have been sent out simply because it was wrong for it to have been sent out? I don't feel does. It's treated instead as a standard tweet among the 1,400 others that account has posted.

I don't actually understand the original tweet and why it's considered so offensive. Can someone please explain?

The term "Did you assume his/her gender" is used by transgender people and "social justice warriors" when people refer to transgender people as him/her. It was deemed offensive as the context in which it was used mocked and downplayed the term.

For me the reaction has been a little over the top, but for produces of a game that explores transhumanism the tweet has alienated some of their target audience.

Can we please stick to discussing the game now please.

Nope, the opposite in fact. Read the thread I posted above.

Well originally it would, the term is now used sarcastically by people as a backlash against perceived forced political correctness.

Again, no. Read the thread.

I was wrong about its origins too.

I'll be honest I don't have a clue where it actually originated, nobody does.

I remember people losing their gooseberry fool over people assuming Caitlin Jenner's gender on Twitter though, long before I encountered people using the term sarcastically.

Gender assignment's a pretty tricky one these days, if someone chooses to act and dress like a man/woman on simple levels I'd say that I'd be happy to identify that person as he/she, but then in the modern era the way people act and dress is much more individualistic and unless it was clear that someone was male or female then I'd be terrified to address them with any such classification.

You could use "they" and "their" instead of he/she or his/her I suppose.

I know it sounds silly, repeating something you can read above, but...did you read the thread? It states quite clearly the origins of the joke. That's the point of the thread.

I mean, it's not really that tricky at all. If in doubt, you ask the person for their preferred pronouns and use those. It's not about how happy you feel it's about respecting people.

They're actually traditional Japanese hats. Pretty standard for cyberpunk as a lot of entries in the genre contain Japanese stylings and tropes.

A character wore one in RAGE too.

Game is now playable from start to finish

https://www.engadget.com/2018/08/23/cyb ... interview/

Cyberpunk 2077 has been in development for at least six years and its team recently hit a major milestone: The entire game is playable from start to finish. It doesn't have all of the proper assets, playtesting or bug fixes in place, but seeing the story come together is a critical step in the development process, Borzymowski said.
