GAMES HAVE CHANGED

Alternative joke for when Cyberpunk 2077 finally releases: Kept you waiting, huh?

Looks like gameplay will be behind closed doors again at E3

Meh, don't really care - I want to go into this basically blind anyway so stuff being behind closed doors just helps me to stick to that!

There'll be a public demo no doubt, and a more in depth behind doors one that'll probably be released a few months later.

But then you have this

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.game ... tory%3famp

Cdproject has gone on record stating that this will be their biggest E3 ever. We will see a very lengthy gameplay demo uploaded on YT, and a gameplay trailer at MS show (with a release date). A behind closed doors demo as well for journos.

Similar to W3 E3 2014

What's the general consensus on release date? Is there any chance of 2019?

2020 is the year the original TTRPG was set. There's no way they're not releasing then.

For the record I strawberry floating hate that guy's channel. A prime example of someone with nothing to say who says it with enough force to get noticed.

Interesting article from Kotaku on progress of the game and work practices

https://www.kotaku.co.uk/2019/05/17/as- ... ts-workers

“I’ve felt that there are hundreds of parallels that could be drawn between the story of the rocky development of Anthem and the story of the rocky and even-more-rocky-to-become development of Cyberpunk 2077.” - Former CD Projekt Red developer

Although CD Projekt Red first announced Cyberpunk 2077 in 2013, development of the game didn’t really start until 2015, after the launch of The Witcher 3. Then followed a difficult period of preproduction (including at least one major directional shift), and the studio made the very-common mistake of moving their entire development team to Cyberpunk before the project could support that many people. Add major technological overhauls and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. “It’s always the same story across the entire industry,” said Badowski. “If you’re changing the technology and at the same time you’re producing the game, it’s a nightmare for most of the companies.”

At least in Poland they should have basic EU working time laws which should hopefully stop some of the horror stories from developers in the US.

You can still personally waive those though. And I have, sometimes it's a requirement.

I had to waive them even though I don't work over, it just seems standard practice

Maybe they thought the game engine they'd been using wasn't flexible enough so decided to create an improved version.

The difference between CDPR and Bioware is that the former does not have a parent company breathing down their necks and insisting on deadlines and dictating direction. If CDPR need extra time or whatever to get Cyberpunk right I am sure they will give it to themselves. I'd be happy waiting a couple of extra years so long as the game turns out to their usual standard of quality.

I agree with that, but the article notes there's been rumours of cash flow problems at the studio since the latest Gwent expansion failed to sell.

God knows how much they've sunk into Cyberpunk at this point but you're probably looking at well over 100 million euros. There'll be a critical point, probably somewhere in the near future, where amount spent vs potential profit vs operating costs is really going to come into play.

EDIT: Having read that article again, the direct comparison by a former employee of Cyperpunk to Anthem is...concerning.
