It’s great to see people enjoying this. I thought It had a strong core on release, the stories and characters are strong and engaging and it’s enjoyable. There were some bugs and issues that made you question how open world it is, and those remain.

Seems they targeted high end PCs and just really struggled to adapt and scale the engine to work.

Given the DF findings, for the cheaper price, better frame rate (vs marginally lower max resolution) and Dual Sense haptics (though I'm not sure how significant these are utilized), it's where I would pick it up right now.

Finally got around to trying the 5 hour trial on PS5, didn't realise the time starts basically as soon as the application is launched so you're burning time looking at loading screens and legal text about engines and middleware!

Game ran pretty nicely, glad that it defaults to performance mode as for me that's definitely the better way to play it, tried the RT mode briefly and just couldn't deal with how sluggish it felt! It's not just the 30fps drop down that hurts it but something about the presentation in general, whether it's the motion blur or one of the other effects just makes it feel very unresponsive to play and poor to look at in motion, like playing on a 1st generation LCD screen with loads of ghosting!

I am now 25 hours into this, and rather enjoying it....

But I am also getting some of the complaints with the game, mainly the complaints about the police and enemy AI in general. Many times now there were instances where I just enter a room 10 inches away from an enemy that just stays there doing nothing but waiting for me to finish him, whilst in other occasions where I try to stealth it up, an enemy would spot from the other side of the map because I stepped an inch outside of cover. Eh???

I take it cop cars are just there for decoration as I can just ram through them and they will just stay there shooting from the spot and thats that!

When its good, it is really good tho and atmospheric.... shame about these things that ruin the vibe a bit

30 hours in and Im approaching the ending of the main story. Tought it would be longer.. I finished some of the side story lines as well, but didnt bother to much with all the random jobs to be fair... Gonna spend this weekend finishing some of those and then start the last mission.

Yeah the main quest is surprisingly short, if you focus just on that it's very easy to feel like you've barely experienced much of Night City at all!

I was waiting for Elden Ring to download last night so decided to fire this up again for a go. I find myself having much more fun if I just wander around the city and see what crops up - getting into random scrapes with gangs, stumbling onto crimes in progress to deal with, getting called up by a fixer to tell me there's a job nearby and seeing what comes of it... It's all enjoyable stuff if you go with the flow of it.

I've ramped the difficulty up from my first play as well which I think has made things more challenging and therefore more interesting - I actually have to plan encounters a bit and make use of more skills and equipment than before!

Now that I’ve finished off Halo Infinite’s main story this will be the next game to start on my Series X, might make a start this afternoon or evening all being well, really looking forward to finally getting to try this out after all this time, with the Digital Foundry video it sounds like its a good time to finally try it with the current gen patch having just released too.

Starting this now, isn’t it all first person? Just wondering why it has such an in depth character creator if you don’t really get to see it?

Makes sense  Not that I use photo mode that often other than in racing games.

You do get to see your character when they're riding on a motorbike or looking in a mirror, so it does make sense that they took all that time and effort to put in a penis/breast modifier.

Big breasts, small penis :datass:

Put about an hour and a half into this so far and just reached act 1, so far it seems ok. Playing it after Halo Infinite the combat definitely doesn’t feel as good but I imagine I’ll get used to it. Got it in performance mode and it looks fine, not seen anything that’s exactly wowed me graphically so far though. Does the choice at the start have much impact? I went for Nomad.

Starting choice does have an impact, the first hour or so is quite different for each, but as time goes on it makes relatively little difference to the game beyond a few dialogue options

That’s good, wondered if there might be anything major towards the end that your starting choice impacted, or some small perk changes.

They might have added more changes recently but I've not seen it mentioned.

I think there are a few side quests specific to each path as well but it's really not much of a factor in the game overall

Played another hour so far today and it still feels like a solid game, just nothing amazing, I know I’m very early on in the main quest but its not really grabbing me as of yet unlike some games where you’re hooked from the very start. Kind of glad I only spent £25 on it, think I’d have been disappointed if I’d paid full price for it, doubly so with the issues it had at launch. I’ll persevere with it though, hopefully after a few more story missions it’ll pick up.

Is there any must have perks/upgrades anyway? I’m level 3 (which seems to be more related to finishing main missions rather than anything else so far) but haven’t spent any of the few I’ve acquired yet, not sure what build to go for yet, stealth feels a little clunky in this, hacking seems a bit meh so might just go for a bold focused mainly on guns and swords (as they were fun to use in the combat training).

It’s a bit hit and miss. I actually really like a hacking/intelligence build to cause chaos and be a bit different, but it can be difficult at times.

I honest think if they dropped last gen and launched it now, this it would be near GOTY status. It’s had jank at times but it’s highs are such that I honestly think it’s nearing The Witcher 3 in writing, side quests and rewards.
