Invest in the right perks (or whatever they're called in this) and the combat becomes significantly more enjoyable, the base experience is very "passable"

With the right gear and upgrades though you really can feel like a cyborg ninja badass

I’m following a build when I’m on this to focus on being a Samurai, since I picked up a Katana I knew it was the way to go (obviously I’ll still keep a couple of guns on me just for the odd time I need them), it’s ace just sprinting up to a soon to be victim of V and just slashing them to pieces :datass:

I don't the constant derision or at least apathy towards the writing in this. Especially when compared to Witcher 3 which seems to have reached mythical status as the peak of video game quest lore. Aside from the fact they overwhelm you a bit in this with a barrage of lore, articles and other pickups which reach absurd Control levels of unreadable quantity and often overlap as you receive them to make things even more confusing, I'm actually enjoying the writing a lot. Characters are really nicely fleshed out and even the most skippable side content has a bit of oomph to it.

Im really enjoying this now. I have missed all the discourse over the past year so don’t know if there’s been an accepted point where it became excellent. If it feels like there hasn’t before I’d say we’re they’re now. There’s so much to see and do and the world feels alive with less and less glitches the more I go through it (although there’s definitely still more than I’d like). I think the world might rival GTA V in terms of a living city where it feels like stuff happens to explore. Obviously this doesn’t have the size and variation of that but it feels like there’s more depth around every corner.

Treated myself to this as it was only £20. Still have pretty high hopes for it, considering. Doing a story-only run through Horizon 1 at the minute to try and refresh the memory before I play the sequel though.

Think I might have been a little over enthusiastic on this earlier. I'm still really enjoying it and there's a lot of good narrative content but the world doesn't quite have the depth I initially thought it did and there are still a lot of glitches.

CDPR have obviously curated a lot of stories in Night City and all of that is really great so far. The game is really gorgeous and blasting through the City on a bike is just great fun and it feels like there's a lot of natural stuff going on. That said there's really not any mechanisms in the world for you to play around with and create your own stories. As far as I can tell the gangs are just window dressing you don't really have the option to promote any one and see things change across the City. The bars you visit in missions feel like they have stuff going on and are somewhat real places, but go back outside of these and they're just entirely lifeless. You don't find interesting things in them and you can't create new relationships. Same goes for all the romance stuff. I thought there might be the option to do some cool stuff with the JoyToys or Love Hotels outside of story missions, but again they're just museums, you can walk round and look at stuff but there's strawberry float all to interact with. Many story missions do encompass this stuff and I do like it all but I just thought it wouldn't be quite so rigidly structured and traditional.

I am also regularly encountering aesthetic glitches. The game runs really well but collision detection is basically non existent, the rumble regularly borks out and I have to reset the game. Voices sometimes don't play and I've fallen through floors. Almost 18 months after release I'm quite surprised it's still in this state.

Just had my first full on crash. Bugs remain pretty consistent but largely not disruptive.

I’m still loving the game. Riding around Night City as a Corpo hating Cyber Lesbian is just awesome. While I’m a little disappointed in the depth of the city itself from an emergent gameplay point of view, all the stories they curate for you are cracking and levelling up and smashing enemies is ace.

I'm about nine hours in and I'm very much enjoying this. It's just a really cool setting and I'm enjoying interacting with Keanu Reeves.

Had to turn off ray tracing though as it seemed poorly optimised and in some areas the frame rate would be all over the place. Running smooth as butter now, except for the odd glitch like my car not moving until I saved and reloaded.

And done.

Bit confused by the ending. Also they made it seem like the end mission was some kind of grand fated enterprise. I barely interacted with Rogue throughout the story though so it didn't really land. Stuff wil Alt as well just seemed underbaked. The post mission wrap up stuff I just didn't understand at all.

Really solid game all in. Disappointed that Night City isn't the next gen open world City it kinda promised to be but it's a beautiful setting for this pretty linear game. Got a bit weary of the side stuff by the end as it stopped doing much new and interesting.

Would definitely recommend this. Sadly it's not a game changer buy not everything has to be. Still pretty glitchy but that doesn't stop it shining in places.

The music in the game is superb.

I got and completed it twice at launch and really enjoyed it (and that was before all the fixes and patches) maybe helped that I went in blind with no hype. It does annoy me when people slate it as a gooseberry fool game. It had a troubled launch and didn’t hit the highs it promised but it’s a very solid 8/10 game for me.

I'm twenty hours in now and I'm absolutely loving it. Already keen to play it a second time with a different character.

Even bought the rulebook for the tabletop game, Cyberpunk Red, as I'm enjoying the world and setting so much.

To be fair, it absolutely deserved a slating at launch - it was unplayable on half of the platforms it released on, and on those where it worked it was still a game that was at least 18 months away from being ready for consumption.

It's a solid 7 or 8 out of 10 game with some aspects which reach for something better (visuals, audio, some of the story etc.) but plenty that brings it down (dull busy work, not especially refined systems and combat, somewhat lifeless city etc.)

I'd put it at an 8/10, it's nearly GOTY material but just falls short in some areas. It can look genuinely breath taking and some of the side quests are extremely well done, almost mini campaigns.

Going to try and get another couple of hours into this now, just starting to go after Hellman, no idea how far that means I am into the main story, last time I came on this it felt like it was just getting going. Definitely just going to crack on with the main quest though, it’s a good game but I reckon I’d lose even more interest if I divert off the main quest too much, it’s not that good and the world isn’t as enticing for me to explore, it looks nice though.

Edit, put another couple of hours into it as I was hoping, think part of the problem re the side missions is you just seem to pick loads up, depending how much I enjoy the rest of the main quest I might do a few for some of the characters I’ve met along the way that I like.

I’ll also add that this game looks gorgeous at points, I was out in the sticks exploring a petrol station and a sand storm rolled in, made for a really eerie atmosphere while I was searching the area with Panam, riding a bike through the city at night is really nice too.

The sex scenes are so embarrassing tbh, I did one with River Ward because I was thinking V should get laid at least once. Poor River though, he's so into V I have to keep friend zoning him, we meet up for some barbecue's and things but not much else. Stellar performance from who ever voices V herself, I believe its the first game she's ever done, she's cool AF.

My V seemed to have a crush on Pan Am who seemed to like V back but I never pursued it at key moments when I could have. Other than that I took on a gig that I thought would involve going to a hotel room and finding out about what I have to do but it cut immediately to sex scene with another woman and that was the gig!

I guess I missed my chance with Panam about not asking to have one room rather than two

Still no one near Yen or Triss yet though :datass: Does someone resembling Ciri actually make an appearance in this by the way? Obviously in TW3 Ciri mentions a universe that could have easily been Night City.

Panam is only into men. Though I think someone was doing a mod on the PC to make every romanceable character bisexual.
