strawberry float me.

No you can't - you're not playing it on release.

You can see a bad game as it is now, you literally cannot see what it was like on release

Honestly, the fact that someone would gatekeep perception of a buggy game is a level of comprehension I can only aspire to.

Played a few more hours and am a bit baffled by everything you have to do, there are so many pickups and options it’s a bit overwhelming. Can’t help but think when combat kicks off I’m doing it all wrong. The times when things hack you I have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing. The sheer amount of text is kinda off putting and I’m already ignoring most of the text file pickups. I like the aesthetic of the world but as with Cyberpunk books it just feels like it puts up a lot of barriers to to stop you really feeling connected to it.

Gatekeep perception

The irony is my comment was agreeing with you, "if you think this is bad you should have seen it at launch" essentially.

And yeah, definitely see where you're coming from regarding the comments about being overwhelmed and questioning whether you're doing things right. It was never good at explaining or tutorialising the various mechanics and actions available to the player, and what I've played of 1.5 has done little to improve that. None of the systems, like the hacking minigame for example, are especially complex - they're often just poorly presented or explained and when that's just one of 50 things thrown at you it all feels more confusing. There's definitely enjoyable stuff in there when you fall into a good mix of styles of play, but it can be some effort to get to that point.

Is there any point to all the things you get given to read and what’s the deal with the game spamming you like mad with pickups. Every room I go into is just littered with stuff I feel like I have no need for.

The brain dance stuff seems really cool but with only 45 minutes left on my trial I’m not sure I’ll get far with it. What’s the best side stuff to discover more about the world and understand what’s going on a bit. I feel like I got dropped into the middle of a game.

The shards are mostly there as background and lore chunks. They get used to give context to a lot of the incidental stuff you run into, but aren't really needed a lot of the time.

There are a ton of pickups in the game world, a huge chunk of which are only really there to add detail to locations. Most of these are marked as "Junk" when you see them, and you can sell it at the various vendors and drop-boxes located around the city, so it can be good to help get credits.

The other potential use is to deconstruct them to get crafting materials.
Crafting is completely optional as well. I think I used it once in my first playthrough and even then it was just to quickly make some more ammo when I was in a tight spot.

Brain Dances, are fun, but they only really show up when the story or a quest requires it.

The game opens up a bit after a certain point (It's a major story beat, you can't miss it). With more story threads to follow, more sidequests and access to the wider city.

Until that happens, I would recommend mainlining the main story quests and doing any side-jobs that interest you.

Overall, patch 1.50 is a dramatic improvement for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles - there's an overall boost to performance, resolution and overall stability but we're still some way short of the majesty of the fully-enabled PC experience and the RT features are somewhat underwhelming, not justifying the drop in frame-rate. Series S lacking a 60fps mode and ray-tracing is also a disappointment.

But to my mind, Cyberpunk's latest patch does one great thing: it creates a more stable base to build on for future updates and patches. The bug fixes are plentiful and CDPR is slowly chiselling away at its work to define it and to remove its blemishes. I've experienced no crashes and no soft locks in my testing, which is a start. Performance has never been better, and at least PS5 and Series X are standardised in their options, their ray-traced shadows, and crowd density. Beyond this, we'll have to wait on further patches. For now, Cyberpunk 2077 is arguably in the position it should have been at launch well over a year ago. For those tempted to replay the game to see its next-gen features, there's no show-stopping moment - but for newcomers? There's never been a better time to experience the game on console.

PS5 apparently. More stable at 60fps.

Came to the end of my trial. Thoroughly enjoyed it and agree it’s on a pretty solid footing. Would be very interested to see some re-reviews. I’m tempted to jump in for £20 but with the game being so deep and Elden Ring out on Friday I feel like it’d be doing a disservice to get a few days in before dropping it for a month. Hopefully it stays around £20 and they continue to add to it with more improvements and expansions.

Can definitely see this becoming more of a No Man’s Sky than an Anthem.

It was 15 quid at Base a couple of weeks ago so once interest drops again it’ll be that price, if not lower. Some retailers like Argos opted to delist it entirely before this latest update.

But weirdly Series X has slightly higher resolution and load times.

Thoroughly enjoying this (first experience playing on Series X post patch). Although I fine some design and theme choices to be a bit immature, I feel somewhat sorry for CD projekt red. The ambition of the project is quite evident from only a few hours in. How they thought they could get this running well on last gen hardware is beyond me.

Put a lot of hours in after the patch, I'd already done the first several hours but held off for this patch. I, well, I'm kinda blown away by it tbh. I've been doing side quests in the main and, like the Witcher 3, they are large in scope and have satisfying story arcs. Pan Am and River along with the Mayor are all stellar stories in their own right and I've many more to discover.

Only cringe is the romantic side, you can shut them down from that path but the writing and animation makes it feel like the devs want you to get with everyone. Now, don't get me wrong, my V is pretty cool (punk girl), I've had to witness sex scenes which in all gaming is always very uncomfortable, they are brief though at least.

The City, and graphics generally are stellar, I'm constantly stopping and staring about. This should have never been released on last gen consoles. Performance mode is the way to go, it looks 4K (and going by DF it's close to it on SX) and the framerate is 60 apart from some specific alleyway DF looked at, where I've never been yet.

Big fan of the Female leads voice acting btw...
There are bugs, Skyrim type bugs, as in not game breaking in any way just path finding of NPC's being off or sounds looping, at least for me that's all I've had. Gunplay is solid, I'm lost on the tech trees but I'm getting better. So, all 'round I honestly think it's shaping up to be one of the best games I've played in years.

Ive been switching between this and horizon, and at the moment this is the one pulling me in the most... I just love the whole ambience and feel of it and the game world in general, and the story is quite enjoyable as well if sometimes a bit too complex for my 40 yr old brain.

I am noticing game bugs more as I go along... sometimes I see cars flipping in the air randomly, but this happens rarely for me. I dont know how frequent this was originally (and will certainly not enter in this merit seeing the last post in this thread) I feel in general the game world is quite responsive to my actions in some areas and less in others, but Im not giving it too much attention. It is by no means perfect, but very enjoyable in its current state

In general however I am glad I held out until the patch
