The marketing isn't aimed at me, I know that. It's pulling purely for the Call of Duty/Fortnite crowd. But every time I see the game I want to play it less and less. They're focusing almost entirely on the combat, which is no doubt going to be weak, and not at all on the stuff I'm interested in, the city systems and world building.

We'll see.

Yeah I get that feeling. I understand why this is an angle they might choose to focus on for marketing but it does leave me concerned. I'm sure the marketing and previews for Witcher III were much more rounded than this has been

Watched it, does look very good still but I do see where you’re coming from regarding it heavily focusing on gun play rather than other stuff that is in the game. Not really sold on any of the back story’s yet either.

New Screenshot. I just cannot believe how nice this game looks.
This is definitely a next-gen purchase, the PS4 isn't going to be able to do this:

I'm less fussed over graphics, tho its certainly would be a plus. Mostly just want the smoothest experience possible and I feel like you'd need that with a game like this. Hope that SSD comes in handy too.

I think I'm leaning towards corporate as well. Looks more Deus Ex but I like being a social character in RPGs.

It is? I don't play either COD or Fortnite (nor any other online shooters, for that matter) and I think it looks fantastic :?

The "mainstream" marketing is to focus on the combat and visuals. Whether that accurately reflects the game or not remains to be seen but I'm hoping there will be more depth to non-combat approaches.

Corporate origin sounds the most interesting for properly immersing in the cyberpunk dystopia. Nomad might be good roleplaying for the character being a stranger to the city just as the player is, but possibly seems like it might stray into wish-fulfillment on having a group of people who do effectively resist the dystopian society.

Most cyberpunk and dystopian fiction that I'm familiar with does tend to have the protagonist coming from a somewhat privileged position more like the corp background than the street kid, so it seems more in-keeping with the genre. Will be interesting to know how large of an effect it has on the narrative.

It's aimed towards those whose only experience of games is that type of mainstream franchise, as that's where the money is. That doesn't mean others, those who are more invested in gaming as a hobby, can't find it appealing but you're not their primary target I don't think. Also, it's much harder to sell the immersiveness and systems at play in a one minute sizzle reel which is why I liked the very first footage we saw, a mix of dialogue, world exploration and combat (although it still focused too much on the latter for me).

Compare these trailers to those of the Witcher 3, a game with a shitload of combat, that instead focuses on story and atmosphere.

Also, those 3 lifepaths? Fast and the Furious, Red Dead 2 and Wolf of Wall Street. Blatantly.

I think the fact the game is first person has resulted in them focusing more on the immersive action side of things in the trailers, which is perhaps understandable in some ways. It's a new IP and they want to excite newcomers.

This game is going to be completely different to W3, in all sorts of ways, and I'm not sure if people are fully ready for that.

I want the game to be very different from W3, it should be that way! But I don't want it to be a glorified FPS either

As in that game reviewer who talks a million miles a minute and dishes out metaphors like they're going out of fashion?

Regarding Cyberpunk, though, it wouldn't surprise me if this game got delayed, I just wish people didn't react like "oh my god 2020 is the worst" every time a game gets delayed. It's awfully repetitive.
