Witcher 3:

Not to mention the billion dollars they made in microtransactions in GTA Online

But that's an apple and oranges comparison. One has been out longer, across multiple generations and has seen significant multiple purchasing.

I'm not denying GTA V has sold lots, but Witcher 3 has sold more than 99% of games ever made, they didn't need to chase another audience.

The online isn't going to be apples and oranges in my opinion. Obviously we don't know alot but I fully expect them to be aiming for a GTA Online cash cow.

It's business. They want more money, simple as that. The people at the top aren't looking at Witcher 3 and saying let's do that again. They're asking how do we make more money.

The apples and oranges comment was specifically about the difference between TW3 and GTA V, I agree that the online of this is 100% aiming to ape the GTA model. :dread:

I just really hope there's still a good single player game in here.

Yeah, if I get this I'm going to have to go into it expecting a GTA experience and little else.

There's also a trailer about the styles of Night City.

4 styles, of which one is a mash up of 2 others, and the 4th is apparently just people who are too poor to afford cool clothes so we'll give it a derogatory name like Entropism.

It's genuinely hard to tell how straight a lot of this stuff is being played, because the trailers are almost like they're set in universe, so maybe they're supposed to be playing up all the cool side of things, and actually it's not all really gonna be like that in game, or maybe it really is all going to be that flat.

Ha, I completely forgot about this.

This thread is great.

EDIT: strawberry floating hell couldn't make it more than a minute into any of those trailers. Feels like they're aimed squarely at Tik Tok users.

If you've genuinely not watched it, the last minute of that Style trailer, from 3:05 onwards, is about the only recent material I've seen that looks like the kind of tone I was expecting from this beginning. It pulls you out of the garish fashion advert, and you're given something more sinister. It's that little bit that makes me wonder if all this flashy "yeah, cool guns and body mods, street racing tournaments, Night City is a playground," marketing is just some super in universe satire, and the game itself is going to be grim as strawberry float, like Night City's actually a shambling corpse, with the flesh of this future capitalist wonderland just draped across the surface. It would be great if it was, but I can imagine the audience backlash would be immense. It still feels more likely its going to sit in that horrible place GTA 4 did, with a serious story about serious things, surrounded by bowling mini games, and your novelty cousin to go get virtual pissed with.

Yeah it's not like the history of fashion isn't shaped by working class styles, both in the emulation of the wealthy and the later inversion of that. Nah "anything goes".

What's discouraging me is watching a Let's Play of Cyberpunk Red by Polygon and while that's very light-hearted and goofy, predictably focused on 90s-culture-but-future humour, it allows the GM to focus on dialogue and plot and is a detective game more than anything. That's all stuff I really want to see in the trailers and showcases for this game, but have never really materialised.

I'm just not sure what Cyberpunk 2077 is even really about at this point. What if anything is it trying to say and have V do?

I genuinely haven't watched it, but I'll take a look.

Edit; Eh, a bit. It's a little darker, but considering the rest of the marketing is like I say, Tik Tok level zaniness it just sits oddly rather than feeling like a hint of what's to come (it seems to be refering back to the first CG trailer where Jackie dies)

EDIT: People on ResetEra pointing out the complete lack of pedestrians on the streets in the driving footage, certainly nothing like shown in the 2018 first look footage.

I pre ordered the other day on PS4. I'm sure it'll at least be entertaining, but not sure what to expect really.

Something that's just come to mind from that vehicles video: where are the flying cars? Are they a maybe only a fast travel / on rails thing that aren't controllable?

They specifically said from the start your character would never be rich enough to afford a personal flying car (aka they wouldn't fit the game they're building). Although, you do travel in one in the Corpo intro, so I imagine they'll be part of the game in a limited fashion.

Supposedly population density changes when you're driving to make it easier to navigate.

Not sure if that's a good idea or not really.

I saw this too, but check 1.26 here. It's the scene from the 2018 demo but...empty?

Still at zero hype for this game. (Probably negative hype.) So little hype that the last video I saw may have been the Keanu reveal.

Me neither. Everything I've seen seems wacky and obnoxious.

Didn’t realise there was a Cyberpunk 2077 reference in The Witcher 3, reckon there’ll be at least one in Cyberpunk somewhere about the Witcher.

Well presumably if they wanted to they could use the same reference assuming you're referring to the part where Ciri hints that she travelled to the world of Cyberpunk?
