In the RPS impression piece they said you'd be able to play through without incapacitating anyone either, I think

The Waypoint impressions podcast said they were told a pacifist run is possible but would be incredibly difficult.

Has any of the gameplay footage shown to the press been released?

Nope. August apparently.

Didn't they do this last year as well? :fp:

Yep. It was understandable then as it was a proper WIP build. A side effect though was that it built a huge amount of anticipation around that footage, elevating it to almost legendary status and they're obviously trying to do that again here.

It's bullshit, basically.

The thing with that footage last year was that it ended up not being anywhere near as good as all the E3 journalists caught up in the hype said it was.

This is what has me worried about this year's footage considering the reaction has been far more muted compared to the WIP footage. Austin Walker described this year's demo as 'a video game ass video game' which is the complete opposite of what the trailer last year came across as.

I think EG were saying that after all the hype it was a little bit of being brought back down to earth because at the end of the day it's still very much a video game.

Yup. Which was always going to happen.

Makes the decision to withhold the gameplay footage even more strawberry floating bizarre however. I mean, Watch Dogs is coming out around the same time and had a full 15 minute gameplay demo on-stage.

It depends what they mean by Pacifist. Killing on one in say Deus Ex is possible, but it's hard.

But you don't disadvantage yourself (too much) if you try to avoid killing people. Both are a viable game play route - a murder machine all the time, or I do it as a last resort...

With "true pacifist" being really hard

They've (CDPR) been quiet on the idea so I'm thinking they probably didn't design the game with that sort of run in mind. I imagine a no-kills run will involve skipping a lot of sidequests and the like that won't have non-lethal options.

Who the strawberry float knows though. We'll find out.

Interesting to hear about them actively working on multiplayer, I didn't realise that.

I really hope the branching quests/various gameplay resolutions are well implemented, and not just as greyed out dialogue options that get you to the same place with some different voice lines.

Some journos were citing greyed out dialogue options due to character origin choices as, if not new then different in their opinion pieces on the new footage. Which was odd. RPGs have been doing that since Baldur's Gate.

Probably been playing too much Skyrim and Fallout 4.

I mean CDPR probably still hold the gold standard for branching from Witcher 2 where the whole second act of the game is entirely different depending on which route you go down and TW3 had some interesting nuances to how things played out depending on your style and choices as well so I am hoping they build on that side of things.

Yeah I meant the journalists :P

Also I stand by New Vegas because of the faction interplay. I know broadly the finale is the same, just played from different perspectives, but the world is built from the beginning for the conflict between the NCR and the Legion being inevitable, so it doesn't feel like you are personally forced down any route as a character.

I have more hope for The Outer Worlds than Cyberpunk when it comes to branching gameplay.

Also I'm /still/ mad at CDPR for retconning my choices from Witcher 1 :x
