I really hope the branching quests/various gameplay resolutions are well implemented, and not just as greyed out dialogue options that get you to the same place with some different voice lines.

Some journos were citing greyed out dialogue options due to character origin choices as, if not new then different in their opinion pieces on the new footage. Which was odd. RPGs have been doing that since Baldur's Gate.

Probably been playing too much Skyrim and Fallout 4.

I mean CDPR probably still hold the gold standard for branching from Witcher 2 where the whole second act of the game is entirely different depending on which route you go down and TW3 had some interesting nuances to how things played out depending on your style and choices as well so I am hoping they build on that side of things.

It is?

Remind me....

Well in Witcher 2 depending on who you ally with out of Iorveth and Roach the second act/chapter (can't recall what they call it) is significantly different - different locations/quests/allies etc.

No worries - TW3 did pull back on this side quite a bit, but I don't blame them. They basically built a whole chunk of content in 2 that loads of people would never see!

Dying Light 2 seems to be pulling this too: the devs had said you'll miss at least 50% of the game's content on one playthrough.

My FOMO is acting up already...

One of the things we learned with The Witcher 3 was, you should not delay working on the console versions, ever.
So at all times we have a version running for everything.

And of course, the high-end version we're showing running it is completely different to the consoles, the current-gen is starting to get old. So there's some things which won't look as crisp. But the important thing to us is it will be fluid, it will play on your machine.

Aaaaaaand that's me waiting for the PS5/Scarlett version.

I'm glad I'm getting the PC version and have come to terms with the fact it won't look anywhere near as nice as the demo/screenshots.

It must be a hard sell in terms of development and funding but I love this kind of approach. Games where I am still finding new things after multiple play throughs are absolutely some of the best! :toot:

I must have played Dishonored 2 through about 4 times before I realised that:
A Crack in the Slab has not just 2, and not just 3, but 4 different timelines! Arkane

I don't have enough time to play through multiple times though, so I always end up just looking up "What's the best path" :fp:

Yeah I'm gonna PC the gooseberry fool out of this one.

I'll need to see the specs, but I think I'm gonna have to replace my 1080 with one of the newer boards to get that sweet 4k action.

The trick is allowing players' choices to change the flow of the game without letting them know that's what's happened whilst also making them feel they're making a difference in some unquantifiable way.

It's quite the balancing act, and Dishonored pulled it off perfectly.

Well it's out March next year (Or is it April), and I doubt we'll have either system by then so PS4/XB1 it is.

Yeah my 5 year old i5 + 970 combo is going to need more than a tuneup I think!

Agreed, subtle but effective.

There's nothing worse than the game making it obvious that CHOICE is happening with CONSEQUENCES!!!!

I genuinely do think the Telltale/Walking Dead approach works well in the game, even though it's blindingly obvious. But that appeal there is that the decision itself is just damn hard to make and you're under immense pressure to make it. It wouldn't translate into an RPG.

I don't know. The TellTale approach told you (basically) "Something changed". You don't know what the consequences will be. Just "that moment was important"

It might be better than, say, the ME approach where one options is bright PARAGON blue and one is RENEGADE RED.

Some of them yes. The big decisions are basically all "pick who to save" binary choices, aren't they?

I think there is room for differing approaches to this but for a game like Cyberpunk I think I would prefer if things weren't so signposted. Just let me play my way and tweak my experience appropriately in response - then when I play it again or discuss it with others I will discover that things may have played out very differently for each of us!

Alpha Protocol is another good one in this area I think.

Who sorry? Telltale?

Not really even in the early games lots affected people's opinions of you. (Although some are who lives/who dies)

They got much better as they went on at disguising the impact...but others still surpassed them in their own genre.

Alpha Protocol gets many points for letting you shorcut all conversations by immediately punching people in the face

Yes Telltale, there are plenty of "x will remember that." but when it comes to the actual branching decisions like who lives and dies, those all seem to be obvious binary choices.
