ResetEra saying cut scenes in this will all be first person.

Seems an odd choice creatively, given it makes the character creation pretty redundant if you never see your character. Makes me wonder if it’s been a decision made to meet the release date.

Maybe they'll be interactive like the Half-Life games?

Driving has a third person option, so you'll see your character at some points.

I do think this would've been better with a GTA V esque first/third person option though.

That's still fairly limited though and the fact the decision has been changed so late in the day makes me think it's more of a resource issue than a design choice.

Wait, I think I just realised what you meant. All cutscenes? So the "V recovering from a night out" one that led the 2018 demo is gone?

Ok yeah, that's not good. Do you have a link to that thread on ResetEra?

Half-Life 2 and it's expansions have cut scenes in FPP and they work ok, but they are free form, as in, you can move about when things are happening. I think Dying Light has full Cut Scenes in FPP and they work well.

It can definitely work well in some games but given the importance of character appearance and customization in a Cyberpunk world, it doesn't seem like a good fit at all.

Problem is that none of those games are RPGs. Cutscenes in those games are secondary to the action. I mean, half of the reason The Witcher 3's narrative was so successful was it's presentation: seemingly every interaction had a unique set of camera moves and framing that allowed the story to be illustrated by the director with the shots they chose.

If it's all first person, all of that falls away.

I'm becoming increasingly concerned, not that this is going to be a bad game, but that it's not going to be the game I want.

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with first person cutscenes. They are probably going for "immersion" (the fact that I find third person more immersive than first is a separate discussion!)

You can still direct with a fixed first person camera, it's just harder

Hugely happy they've gone down this route, FPP is a massive factor for immersion in games for me.

Customisation is more about how people react to you and the effect it has on the game, not just oogling what you look like all the time.

Digital Foundry breakdown.

Looks like it was running at 1080p and was still dipping below 30. They do say that the Deep Dive looked nowhere near as impressive as the game demo of the same section displayed at this year's E3.

Not watched the DF vid, do we know what the deep dive was running on?

The E3 demo was apparently running on fairly pimped out 1080ti system. Although, that was at 4K, so you would think pretty much any proper gaming system could run it at 1080p without struggling too much.

Although apparently that demo was at 30fps... Potential frame rate issues they are still trying to resolve?
