strawberry float sake, I wasn't annoyed at Bloodlines 2 being delayed because this was going to be in April but now how am I supposed to slake my open world RPG thirst? I'm already in withdrawal from the Outer Worlds.

I understand the game probably still needs work but that doesn't make it less annoying.

Funnily enough I had originally predicted Cyberpunk would be released around September to November so this is more in line with what I expected before they announced the first date.

Games being delayed is a godsend from my point of view. It gives me a bit more opportunity to trim down my massive backlog whilst still being able to get a game that will have lots of people talking on day 1 (without then having to put it on the shelf for months whilst clearing up other games i am half way through).

I am currently playing Blood and Wine expansion of The Witcher 3 (amazing), and i can see that i will probably still be picking away at that come March.

Which, as it turns out, may be the reason for the delay...

Rumours suggest the reason for Cyberpunk 2077’s five-month delay is it didn’t run well enough on current gen consoles, especially Xbox One.

It may be the fashion so far this year, but a five-month delay for any game is a big deal – especially for a game that developer CD Projekt claim is already ‘complete and playable’.

The reason given at the time was that they simply wanted to make sure the game is as polished as possible, which is perfectly reasonable, but an insider named Borys Niespielak claims there’s a more specific reason: they’re having trouble getting it to run properly on current gen consoles.

When it was first teased many assumed Cyberpunk 2077 was a next gen game but it’s only ever been formally announced for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC; with CD Projekt suggesting that Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions are ‘doable’ but not a priority.

Speaking in a recent podcast (in Polish) Niespielak suggests that the base Xbox One – the least powerful of the current gen consoles – is a particular problem and current performance is ‘extremely unsatisfactory’.

Translations of the podcast on Discord, via altchar.com, suggest that the main storyline of the game was finished three months ago but that side missions are still being worked on.

The main story campaign is said to be shorter than The Witcher 3 but more replayable on a second or third run. Niespielak also claims that the game will run on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility, as may be the case for all or most PlayStation 4 titles this year.

We’ve contacted CD Projekt to see if they would confirm or deny the rumours, but they’ve said they have nothing to add on the subject of the delay.

And Microsoft are expecting their Xbox Series X games to also run on the original Xbox One?!

When Cyberpunk 2077 was first teased, the Xbox One and PS4 hadn’t even been announced.

If they can get Witcher 3 to run on the Switch then I suppose an Xbox One version of Cyberpunk 2077 is possible, although it will most likely look like shite compared to the other versions.

I have confidence that it'll run on Xbox One S but I can see the graphical settings taking a bit of a beating.
I have a feeling there's going to be quite a contrast between that and the One X version and the inevitable next gen versions will be how they hope people will experience the game.

I'm a bit confused by CDPRs statement. Going by the news from Phil Spencer posted in the XBOSX thread - and as mentioned in the Xbox tweet above - it sounded like all Xbox games would run better on the newer kit; there didn't appear to be a suggestion that you'd have to pay for the "upgrade". CDPRs talk of "free" could maybe suggest that some updates won't be free?

I really hope that publishers don't charge for "upgrades" on the newer systems.

CDPR wrote: As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven’t we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game? As CD PROJEKT RED, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. Cutting to the chase, everyone who buys Wild Hunt will receive 16 specially prepared DLCs absolutely for free, regardless of platform. You don’t have to pre-order, you don’t have to buy any special edition to get them — if you own a copy of Wild Hunt, they’re yours. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game.”

https://en.cdprojektred.com/news/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-16-free-dlcs-for-everyone/

CDPR around the time of The Witcher 3 release made a statement about the smaller DLC that was free and highlighted that they were on the side of gamers, they did something similar with their online store so this furthers that stance.

It could mean that Microsoft is not mandating third-party publishers give free upgrades to next-gen. So it may be that Ubisoft sells two version of the new AC game. If you buy the PS4/XBO version it won't give you a free upgrade.

Oh boy... don't set me off about that "all dlc is free" episode for Witcher 3 :slol: . "Free" as in two paid expansions  .

*Some* dlc was free  .

That Microsoft tweet reads like it's just saying that Xbox One games, when played on Series X, will run better, but they'll still be the same version of the game, with all the same files. The CDProject tweet sounds more like owner's of the Xbox One version, will also get the upgraded version that will be released for the X Series, so a technically different version of the game, with higher quality assets, etc.

The Witcher 3 probably had the most value for money approach to DLC that I've ever seen. Both of the expansions "Blood and Wine" and "Hearts of Stone" were absolutely packed full of incredible quality content for a really good price. I got more game time and enjoyment out of these than a hell of a lot of full priced games.

CDPR don't deserve anything but praise for their approach to DLC compared to the rest of the industry.

I agree!

Jenuall wrote:...CDPR don't deserve anything but praise for their approach to DLC compared to the rest of the industry.

...I don't agree quite so much :-) . The thing that got me was that CDPR did a lot of shouting about "all DLC is free" and indeed they did release a number of free items; that was great. But then two paid add-ons released; pretty much as with any other AAA game nowdays. Sure, they were very good - maybe even excellent! - but it didn't, for me, tie up with the high amount of noise about all DLC being free.

I'm being a bit niggly, I know. CDPR did a way better job with the DLC for that game than most other publishers have with their games.
