Nope, not even in the ray traced reflections. There are exactly 3 ways you can see your character:

Photo mode
Menus
Third person driving

There is a fourth option: looking at selected interactable mirrors, all of which give you a really awkward look at your character and are nearly always poorly lit and at a weird angle

Had a great bunch of bugs today which culminated with this poor chap getting zapped so hard by malware his eyebrows jumped off his face and became a sort of hovering sentient disapproval emoji

One thing they did nail: the music.

When it actually bothers to play in game it's uniformly excellent

Yeah.

It's very "Youtuber" but he highlights a lot of stuff I haven't seen mentioned anywhere else: the audio and poor UI specifically.

Just watched this and I agree completely. I didn't follow any of the pre-release stuff but it is infuriating how much they promised that was just not there at all.

I watched this last night before bed and whilst I agree with all of it, I still woke up this morning really wanting to play the game, there's just something about it that I love. I've cleared most of the gigs in the first area and have finally started doing more of the main story, but will most likely pause that again before too long and try and clear the next area.

The production values on BeatEmUps videos have really gone up recently.

Was a good video though, I enjoyed it, and it has completly put me off playing Cyberpunk anytime soon

The thing is...like Preezy says I'm still enjoying it immensely. The writing is top notch, and it looks incredible (on a very expensive PC...when it's not strawberry floating up). The characters are some of the best I've seen in a game, ever, and the game utilises them incredibly well. Some of the side missions are real all timers, and although the consistency isn't anywhere near that of the Witcher 3 it has the same humanity that game did.

This is tinged with a healthy dollop of What Could Have Been, although the more I play the more I think that even with an extra year the game still would have been mediocre overall. There's no feeling of direction here, of intent. It's just a bunch of disparate parts stuck together with scotch tape. There's no running theme or voice to the thing, and it has no interest in its world beyond its aesthetic and some extremely surface level Big Corps are bad gooseberry fool. The overall direction of the game is terrible, but the individual pieces can be magnificent.

It's very much less than the sum of its parts, and no extra crunch would have solved that.

EDIT: It also has that insane photomode

Yeah I'm still generally enjoying the game but it's hard to go more than 5 minutes without being disappointed by something, there's just so much potential here that could have been realised if they just gave it the proper level of time and care, and importantly as Taf points out: if they had an actual direction they were working toward, a key message or theme they wanted to communicate.

The mechanics of the gameplay are the real let down for me, I've done many missions that would have been incredible if things like hacking, stealth, exploration and social options had been properly developed, and also implementing the game so that it wasn't entirely reliant on quest markers for progress. The last mission I did was teaming up with a NCPD cop to investigate a murder and it culminated in breaking into an enemy base to locate some evidence. This was a good sized area that was really well designed spatially with multiple entry points, clear scope for verticality or hacking your way through stealthily as well as obvious hooks for social options to solve the problem etc. But the systems just aren't there to take advantage of it. What should have been a tense hunt through a heavily guarded location to find what I was after it just became a "follow the quest marker" hunt, there was no suspense about where to go and how to get there, no thrill in solving the problem socially because I can't interact with any of the enemies, even the guy on the "front door". Oh and as a sim fan it also committed the ultimate sin: half the enemies didn't spawn until I triggered a quest update and then they just pinged into existence so my careful planning and scoping the area by both eye and security camera was pointless because the areas I'd made sure we're safe just got populated with new people out of thin air! :fp:

Wrapped up my playthrough today.

I really enjoyed this. Like really, really enjoyed it. I think if it hadn't been for the many, many issues and the amount of wasted potential within it, it really could have been something very, very special.

Seriously this could very easily have become one of my favourite games of all times.

But it isn't and it's been compromised in so many places that I'm genuinely disappointed in it.
Bugs and performance weren't two bad for me (Playing on Series X) but there were still more issues than I would have been happy with.

Who knows, maybe over the next few years they'll manage to polish it up, fix the issues and turn it into what it should have been all along (Do a No Mans Sky essentially) but I'm very sceptical they can perform that big a transformation. There's so much that's broken, or just flat out missing.

I'll be looking forward to give it a replay once the Next-Gen patch is out later this year and hopefully it'll be a little more stable at least by that point.

7/10

Latest annoying bug: getting the "radio" version of a characters dialogue even when you are right next to them. :fp:

Happened in basically every mission I played tonight. At one point I was getting some stereo bullshit where it played both the normal and radio version of a conversation at the same time!

I often get the opposite, when I'm talking to characters on a call I get the voice as if I was stood right there with them rather than the 'radio' voice.

Seems like rather than audio files being actually for local/radio chat all of the voice files are probably just the regular audio and then for calls it's supposed to just apply a filter during playback.

Yeah it's clearly just a filter but the logic for when to apply is messed up. All of the lip syncing matches up (when the animations actually play that is! )

Oh yeah lip animations seem to have a 50/50 chance of actually triggering at the start of a conversation. I've had story related conversations and the characters lips only start moving about halfway through.

For as many glitches and technical issues there are I just can't pull myself away from the game, it's fantastic. Doing all the side missions and leveling up V before I do the final few missions. Playing on Pro is fine, tbh it's preformance is no different to that of a Ubisoft game .

This is such a love/hate affair for me. Just worked my way through 2 really interesting side quests, one about a guy who.... found Jesus shall we say, and another about the mayor, and they were both ace. But then I found myself having a conversation with a character where, over their shoulder, was clearly the point on the pavement where the dogshit NPC AI was programmed to turn around 180 degrees and carry on with their meaningless preprogrammed routes.

I swear I watched at least 20 NPCs walk to the exact same spot only to turn around and wander back exactly where they’d come from. It was like that scene in Donnie Darko where the old lady is constantly checking her mailbox.

“You gonna keep going? Keep going past that same point? Just another step?..... oh, not today, no dice grandma”

Yeah, I’ve had some great side quests lately. The quests around River are good, as are the mayor ones with ‘Dream on’ being a particular highlight. Brilliant.

I've only done the first River quest so far and it was underwhelming, full of potential but very much of the unrealised variety.

For example there was plenty of scope for some great interplay between River and V when interrogating/talking to people during the quest, but it's always just either V or River talking whilst the other stands there doing strawberry float all and looking bored.

Didn't help that it was one of the most buggy quests I've played in a while either.
