Changes route in today to be on a fully road road, it's considerably less interesting but so much easier as I get into the swing of things. The other route is loose surface so it just saps all momentum.

Now that the kids have started getting into cycling (and can actually go for more than a few metres without falling off!) I've started getting out with them on my bike and it's reminded me just how much I enjoy cycling and miss that I used to get to do it every day on my commute!

After a couple of years of basically zero use my bike really needs a bit of TLC though!

Bloody snapped my chain on a trail ride and I'm at least 4 miles from home.

I noticed a couple of people complaining about rain. I commute every day by road bike and invested in a Rapha Winter Jacket this winter. They are expensive, but very, very good. You can sometimes get a sale price and it’s a steal at that price. I pair it with a base layer and that me sorted for everything but the very coldest days, when I use the rapha pro team winter base layer with the roll up neck bit. It has a waffle texture for extra warmth. It really is about the right clothes to match with the weather and you’ll stay warm and dry.

I aim to start off a bit chilly and warm up to the right temperature after a short time when I’m exercising.

Yeah I cycled to work/uni every day regardless of the weather for about 15 years and as long as you get some decent gear and the weather should be no real problem, even in hard driving winds and rain I tended to get to the office in a decent condition.

Regarding base layers - I was never that fond of them myself, if anything I find my problems were more about getting too hot, even in the winter. It would be freezing to start with but after just a few minutes I would always find myself getting too warm, even with decent "breathable" kit on.

Is it wrong that I read this in a Patrick Bateman voice in my head?

Nice that is a decent amount of climbing. How are the legs and butt.
