The tech is very cool and does let you see all sorts. They almost all run off joystick controls as well so pretty much everyone on this forum could probably give the imaging a fair crack - my first boss in ophthalmology said that she liked hiring men in their twenties because we all grew up playing video games so instinctively knew how to use half the machines - that didn't sound as predatory at the time as it does writing it now :slol:

Cheers dude!

Don't stress on the cataracts - they're a bit like wisdom teeth for your eyes. Most people probably will have them at some point but if they don't cause any issues for you it's not a problem. If they do cause problems with your vision there's a routine procedure to remove the opaque lens and replace with a synthetic one (this approach was discovered when an ophthalmologist called Harold Ridley noticed that WW2 airmen coming back with bits of Perspex canopy in their eyes didn't reject the perspex). Most patients have a good outcome with modern cataract procedures so it's just about weighing up when/if you want it done.

You don't want glaucoma to bite you on the arse though. Keep up with your optician checks (free for over-40s with a family history of glaucoma!) - if the NHS is giving you something for nowt that not everybody gets then there's a good reason for that!

Coloured lenses?

Pretty much.

They don't fix it, but they do make it more likely I'll notice red on green.

Ive got my glasses now, and I don't like them :simper:

Got varifocals which are very strange. At least distant stuff is very crisp and clear now, it's like thst Spiderman glasses meme gif when I take them off.

My eyesight went really bad towards the very end of university, and I thought I would have to get glasses very soon. Then I stopped partying every day, my eyesight gradually improved and has thankfully stayed that way.

Was the problem you had at Uni not blurred vision from drinking too much?

Yeah that's what I assume. There was a marked deterioration by the end of my studies. At the time I think I just assumed my eyes were weakening with age, as my family isn't exactly known for its 20:20 vision. I put off going to the opticians because, well, because I was/am an idiot, and was surprised to notice my eyesight improve not insignificantly over the course of the next year or so.

I've never really looked into it, so I just went with the most obvious explanation that constant alcohol consumption weakened my eyesight, which recovered once I stopped drinking as regularly.

It may well have had some sort of effect on the brain or neurotransmitter hormones but I have literally no idea what I'm talking about.

I've been for an eyetest. It's moved on a bit since 25 years ago. 4 different tests. One that puffed air into my eyeballs, one that had dots all over the place, one that looked into my soul through my eyeball and one being the "have a read of that bottom line" test.
The upshot - I need glasses. They tried hawking all these different frames and a protective coating on the glass. Jedi mind tricks don't work on me so I got frames that look like 1980s NHS special.
It's about vision, not fashion, plus with them on I can't see them anyway.
