Did you come in here just to bitch at people for bitching?

Did you come to bitch about people bitching?

I didn't no, just bugs me when people miss the point or purpose of a show and then grumble ass about it not being something it never was meant to be,

To put things into perspective, Go 8 Bit was just voted best new gameshow of the year by gameshow fans beating Tenable, The Code, Robot Wars and The Crystal Maze to the title.

Robot Wars and Crystal Maze aren't new shows though.

They count reboots as new shows, so its actually a more impressive feat that its beaten out much more established shows.

Comedy video game show Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit, which premiered on Dave last year, starts its second season on Monday, 15th May, but there's more: immediately following each new episode will be a brand new games review show called Go 8 Bit DLC.

Go 8 Bit DLC is hosted by ex-Eurogamer superstar and now very much proper mainstream superstar Ellie Gibson, with team captains Steve McNeil and Sam Pamphilon. According to Dave, it'll feature "lively debates and reviews covering the history of video games". Guest stars include comedians Susan Calman, Jamali Maddix, writer Rhianna Pratchett, musician Scroobius Pip and Harry Potter's Weasley twins, James and Oliver Phelps, while each week Dara O Briain will also pop in to discuss one of his favourite games of all time.

Ellie Gibson is actually quoted in a press release, which I am reporting on. This feels weird.

"I am very excited to be hosting Go 8 Bit DLC," a very excited Gibson said. "I'm hoping it will offer an extended and enhanced user experience, so it's just like regular DLC, except we're not asking anyone to pay £7.99 for some new hats."

God no, I can already imagine how awful these "debates" are going to be.

Gibson was the worst thing about the show. She's like a Poundland Lauren Laverne.

She used to boil my piss every time she was on video game nation. Completely unfunny quips about how LOL GEEK gaming is.

Yeah Ellie Gibson was pretty annoying, not at all funny and didn't really need to be there. Some kind of discussion about games could be interesting, but given that line-up and the general style of the show, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

At least the first guests are decent: Richard Osman and Sara Pascoe.

Bit of a harsh appraisal of Ellie Gibson. I thought she was fine. The whole format needed a bit of tweaking so hopefully should be a bit better this time round. Most of her work is print based isn't it? And I imagine that a lot of what she says isn't written by her.

Sounds like we're all bowled over about last night's episodes.

I don't mind it, it's quite entertaining. They make less of a big deal about the revolving stage and have Incorporated the voting into the time it takes; I'm sure they were separate before. The DLC show obviously had a tiny production budget, it's a little bit awkward in the execution at the moment, but I'm sure it will improve over time.

I was just amused that nobody had commented since it was broadcast.

I actually watched the first episode, along with the DLC bit, but didn't really feel like it was worth commenting on as it seemed exactly the same to me; annoying guests, toilet humour, and a general bottom-of-the-barrel feel. The DLC sounded like a decent premise, but again was poor. With some tweaks it could be okay, but still feels like a missed opportunity.
