Jawa has the Halberd btw and I used that for effectively the whole game. Scales well and its actually a very good teaching weapon too as if you miss an attack you recover quite slowly. Really helped make me learn to be more patient and precise. But it depends on what he feels comfortable using. (actually that reminds me of a bug bear I have with these games is that you have to put a lot of time into grinding just to be able to try out weapons)
The Bell Gargoyles are right banana splits. I've never bought into the idea they are meant to teach you to fight multiple enemies at once because well, you have already fought groups.
The other famous 2 creature boss fight is far faaaaaaaaaar better designed. It is a complete damage check boss fight though because as soon as they gang up on you your chances of winning are about 1% if you cant deal damage at a good enough rate.
