If you've made it to the Undead Burg bonfire then your're headed in the 'right' direction.

Such a brilliant game, reading someone taking their first steps just brings back those memories.

I absolutely loved the lack of hand-holding and the open nature of the game from the get go, pushing out into one of the avenues available to you, never sure if you were heading the right way, what challenges and opportunities await you, taking each step cautiously wondering if the next threshold would trigger a surprise attack or even a boss, always desperate to hold on to your life just longing for the sight of a bonfire on the horizon...

Cool, good to know. I actually ventured ever-so-slightly further than that and got killed by 3 hollows that were mooching about on a rooftop listening to J-Pop, bastards decided to throw their bottles of cider at me and set me on fire. Twats. I called it a night at that point.

One of the big benefits that I can see with playing it on the Switch is that I can just put the Switch into sleep mode and effectively pauses the game for me, so I can just power it back up and continue from exactly where I left it.

Not sure if there has been a patch to address this but if you're going to dip and and out like that (which is how I played it and agree that it's a great approach!) then you might need to stick it in offline more otherwise it disconnects you and you have to restart each time you wake it up from sleep.

I don't pay for the Nintendo online gubbins so it's always in offline mode for me :toot:

Ah no problems then! :toot:

Like I say I played the vast majority of it offline and it's one of my favourite games of all time now, but the online aspects are really great as well and I know some would argue that the "true" experience is only had by playing it online!

Yeah I would like to experience the online aspect at some point, I've heard that other players can leave messages on the ground like "there's a dude in that tower that will strawberry float you up

Maybe when I have more incentive to use the online service I'll get it, but for now I don't see the value personally.

Yeah like I say I played without it and still had an incredible time so I wouldn't worry too much. The messages from players are fun though (especially when other people are being dicks! ) as is stuff like the co-op and invasions.

I'd never thought back on this and you've gone and made me sad now. I adore these games so much but I'd completely forgotten what that first time playing Dark Souls was like. Just the fear and desperation followed by the relief and elation upon finding a bonfire... I'll never quite experience that new mix of emotions ever again. After hundreds of hours across multiple games I'm just too comfortable and confident. It's a different kind of high but it's so different to those early days

Thanks Dark Souls for everything.

Managed to sneak in about 15 minutes on my lunch break today - cleared those 3 goons on the roof and then went for a bit of an explore down into the lower levels and found this big fuck-off knight that runs really quick. I got scared and ran plodded away but he caught up to me and I had to send him on a merry chase before he gave up. I then fell off a ledge and died  :fp:

If it's who I think it is, there's a chance for him to drop a good weapon when he dies.

I will say, don't be afraid of dying. It's a fundamental part of the gameplay.

I think that's one of the first instances of them using a Crystal Lizard to strawberry float with the player as well - make you chase the shiny-shiny into the arms of the Knight!

Sword and shield Black Knights aren’t that hard to fight, it’s relatively easy to backstab them. Greatsword Black Knights on the other hand can get in the strawberry floating sea :x

I need to re start..... My weapon started to break and so when I googled how to repair it.... Turns out I may have got into a fight with a random npc who was actually important. And killing him is apparently a bad idea.

So.... The journey begins (again)

Wish my image sig would work

Yeah don't fight people unless they fight you first.
