Kalameet was the one I remember having most trouble with, take me a while to work out a decent strategy against him

Got back to this over the weekend. Killed that garden butterfly, Hydra and Pinwheel but don't seem to have really advanced any. Not really sure where I should be going

You killed three bosses in three different areas so I'd say that's pretty good progress! :toot:

Nothing much unlocks after the Moonlight Butterfly, it's optional. (Mild hints spoilered just in case you don't want them.) Beating the Hydra gives you access to a ladder you can climb up, to go exploring and a special enemy in the far corner of the Hydra's lake. Beating Pinwheel unlocks even darker, spookier caves behind his laboratory.

Presumably you've rang the Gargoyles' Bell in the Undead Parish? Have you gone into Lower Undead Burg, where the dogs and thieves are? If not, go back to where you met Solaire and you'll find another new place to explore.

They really should have made the ladder in Pinwheel's room more obvious.

Yes, I think the last 'big' boss I beat was the Gaping Dragon although that was some time ago now and walking through the depths is just :dread:
I'll have another look around the Hydra. I've been down in New Londo a bit but keep getting killed by the black skull face dudes and that blob so I don't think I'm meant to go there yet. I think I once found Blighttown but got killed and don't know how or if I should go back there

Yeah I stumbled upon this but I have no light so can't go any further

You don't need a light but there's no point going beyond Pinwheel's room if you've not rung both bells and completed the areas which open up after that. You'll get to a point after Pinwheel which is blocked until you've progressed enough in the story.

Dark Souls is pretty nonlinear, but Blighttown is a good next zone after the Gaping Dragon. You might want to check it out next. (If you find yourself getting poisoned, check your inventory and equip armour with good poison resistance.)

I'm finding the online features really hit and miss on switch. Had plenty of Summons available for manus but none at all for kalameet. Managed to get 2/3 of his health down solo so I might actually do it on my own.

Also switch pvp players have no honour. Using estus flasks and not bowing at the start of duels. Smdh.

Managed to get from Valley of Drake's to New Londo, opening up a quick route from Firelink to Blighttown. Keep getting poisoned in Blighttown though

I don't think I've used the online at all, I don't really understand it.
I also don't understand reverse hollowing and joining covenants?

Summoning others you need to be in human form to see their summon signs. You can't summon people in an area after you have defeated that area boss.

To be summoned yourself you need to put your soul sign down when either hollowed or human form and this can be done even after you've defeated an area boss.

To reverse hollowing at a bonfire you need to have 1 humanity (the number on the left of your health and stamina bars)

Covenants are pretty hit or miss in DS1. I think the only truly beneficial one is the Chaos Covenant since that opens up the shortcut to Lost Izalith.

@Hypes: Minor hints, again spoilered just in case:
You can farm Purple Moss Clumps from the Ents in Darkroot, or you can buy them from the Female Merchant in the shortcut between Firelink and the Lower Burg. They'll help a lot with poison.

Toxic is a different matter, but if you kill a Blowdart Sniper they won't respawn.

Because you found the New Londo shortcut, you'll have an easier time of Blighttown than many new players, so well done! :toot: Just try to explore further and further downwards. Don't be afraid to run around in the swamp and explore when you eventually reach the bottom, poison isn't that deadly.

Cheers Karl, yes I knew about the purple moss and had loads already.
Made some decent progress, climbed up the ladder after the Hydra, found a big wolf that killed me. Then made my way into Blighttown and explored most of it I think, desperately searching for a bonfire with almost no health left, but made it!
Couldn't find anything else to do so wandered over to Quelaag's domain. Tried out summoning an ally which feels like cheating as the fight was rather easy. Found a bonfire and another spider thing which I can't talk to. Then wandered to the Demon ruins where there was immediately another bonfire (which after the amount of times I've died trying to find one or had to leg it back miles to get to one feels like it was taking the piss). Cheesed the boss there by just hiding behind the wall and chopping its tentacles. Then got to a big yellow wall which I couldn't go through.
Went back to Firelink and a freaky serpent thing was there. Didn't know what to do so went back and killed the wolf and now a cat has given me a ring

It is a shame that Londo acts as a bit of a dividing line between the sections of the game that are brilliant and those that are merely good (with hints of greatness)
