Urgh this topic just reminds me how good this game is. Honestly, I'd be jealous of anyone playing it for the first time and even more jealous of people playing it as their first Soulsborne game. I'd played Bloodborne beforehand so I probably ever-so-slightly prefer that but there's no doubt that the game world in Dark Souls is one of the best ever created. Well, the first two/thirds of the game anyway. It isn't quite as well put together when you're on the joke stretches.

Actually that's a bit of a common theme with the games. At the start when you're exploring and discovering, the games are at their strongest (Yarnham in BB must be one of the best levels in gaming too) but when they need to funnel you to an end point, it is not quite as compelling. I wasn't a massive fan of the Mensis areas in BB, compared to the early game places.

Using zweihander

I think I used that for most of the game before I realised it was too slow for bosses, but I'd been doing them anyway.

I used it for Kalameet ffs :fp:

I have released that guy... this sounds interesting...

Go back to Firelink and down the stairs to the Firekeeper girl. He'll be sitting across from her.

Kick him once to make him stand up. Then when he's staggered, kick him again so he falls off.

He'll fall to his death and you'll get his souls. At that point, save and reload and you'll find a ring you can pick up.

If you don't kill him, the bonfire will stop working and you'll need to fight him to get it back as well as the ring.

The ring is worth it though. It will increase your equip load (so you can wear more before fat-rolling) and your health.

I didn't know you could do this. I usually just fought him later.

I missed your Souls stream last night, Karl; I would love to have watched but I was already viewing Jazzem's stream and Pedz's! Hope to catch you again soon, albeit I won't be around this evening.

Nah it's cool! That's my bad, I didn't mean to compete with anyone else's stream! Anyway, Maf and I had a good laugh. I kept getting frame drops and running off the edge of cliffs by accident, I almost lost my cool at one point to be honest.

I am almost in tears.

Of joy.

I followed Cheeky Dev's guidance for gaining the ring and then returned to battling the gargoyles. I had several attempts and, dang, I got real close to finishing them off before they just switched on the flames. I was determined to take 'em down!

And then it happened. I was stunned  . Thank you to the folks here who shared ideas, spurred me on and kept believing  .
