Yep, I just attack every chest now to be safe!

I find that if I do a strong two handed attack initially and follow it up with a flurry of quick attacks then I can usually kill them off before they get a chance to fight back!

Dont try this in DS2

Good job on Kal. :datass:

Today? I've finally caught up. Oh my. Your first few attempts were not really attempts you just sort of went "WAAAAAAAAAH WAT DO I DO?!?!?!" But now you seem to have at least started to engage with them. Does make me laugh you've faced them more times then the guys in front of the door. Who you've not attempted once. After that you just unraveled against the simple normal enemies. Good that you've got the run to the boss down. I just came from the other one.

Is now a good time to tell everyone I beat O&S on my second attempt? :shifty:

:datass:

My advice is to mainly stay locked on to the quick one. Keep moving away from the fat one (but try to keep both in you field of view) and let Luigi come to you. Be extremely patient, its going to be a long fight regardless. Get a hit in when you can. If you mange to get 3 attacks in fatty is probably gonna be right on you so dont bother. Oh and you HAVE to ditch using R2. Its slow and more importantly uses up stamina that you need for either rolling away or blocking. Not having that stamina is going to kill you. You had one attempt where you just went super aggressive Jawa and it was stupidly greedy. But it does show you how open Luigi is to getting hit. So take your time. My fight was so long I could only capture the "second half". Very few will ever kill fatso first without specifically trying to do so. You'll probably find you end up just doing long laps of the room walking backwards. Keep moving and keep moving away from Fatty.

You badly need to work on your camera/lock on skills. I know its tricky because the Souls one is a tetchy little strawberry floater to use but at points you were wildly locking on and switching and unlocking you made life 100x harder for yourself. I know as well because what killed me the first time I took them on was due to loosing track of Fatso as I tried to switch between them and it wouldn't let me. This is why trying to keep them both on screen is important.

Also Luigi isn't shooting fire at you. So maybe you want to have a look at something good against another type of element. :shifty:

Yeah, I don't know why I haven't tackled those two big guard guys! I wonder if they'll be gone for good if I defeat them, or if they'll return? I think I'll have a go before returning to face O&S.

The Watching Artist wrote:...After that you just unraveled against the simple normal enemies...

I think that, after a while, I get a little frustrated after repeatedly trying to return and face the bosses; I try to rush through and in Souls it's tough to do that. I feel that a patient style of play suits my current skill level better. The silver knights are tricky as it can be hard to judge their moves. When they do the "wave shield and then thrust" move I know that I can get a thrust in but, for their other attacks, I just have to block as they strike even if I hit them first. I'm not too good at getting around them to backstab; my character isn't fast enough.

The Watching Artist wrote:...Oh and you HAVE to ditch using R2...

Man, yeah, Cheeky Dev always tells me to use R1, too! I will try and break my habit and use R1 as my default attack.

The Watching Artist wrote:...Also Luigi isn't shooting fire at you. So maybe you want to have a look at something good against another type of element. :shifty:

Yeah, it's some kinda "magic" isn't it? I will have a look at my gear to see fI have something better for facing that sort of attack.

I plan on playing today from 15:30. I will spend time tackling the two big guards in the hall; getting back to the blacksmith to see if I can upgrade my gear; and - depending upon how those earlier goals go - re-visiting O&S!

I know, man... Matt, Cheeky and yourself have all mentioned it  . I think I sometimes get a little carried away and, when the moment to strike arrives, I want to make the most of it. But, yeah, I will work on utilising the swifter speed of R1!

Strong attacks are a treat for when you really know you can afford it, light attacks are the meat and potatoes of the Dark Souls fighting experience!

Yeah, up until this point I've generally been able to get by with the strong attack but, as the enemies are getting to be fiercer and faster, I think I need to change up to utilising light attack more. My Souls journey is evolving!

Ugh. That was a grim session... I got a little frustrated and didn't want you guys to have to watch me playing so badly.

I just beat one of the big guards in the hallway and *almost* beat the other one before getting killed. The one that I defeated has re-appeared, so I guess they can't be killed off? Hoh-hum. Will have another go at 'em.

They're just "normal" enemies unfortunately but you can just run past them.

Yeah, I've run past 'em a couple of times to get to the bosses... just wanted to take 'em out.

Just got duffed up by them again - the first one regenerated his health four times :| . Time for a break.

Didn't see the stream today but Jawa: those big guys are probably the hardest "normal" enemies so far. There's no "trick" but the best strategy is to treat them like a boss: strafe and feint, roll behind them when they attack, get a couple of light hits in, then reset. Don't give them space! If you're staying close enough to them, you'll be able to do more damage while they're healing than they heal themselves for. The only time you should back off is for their magic burst attack.

Tbh I wouldn't bother with them, you're only going to lose estus better saved for the main fight.

Running past them to the boss is the best strategy for progressing.

They are actually great for soul farming if you can get the hang of killing them quickly though. You can run a circuit from the bonfire to the Giant Blacksmith and back, killing off the silver knights and winged demons and giant soldiers, that nets you incredible souls, like 15k every run.

Once you get the hang of it you can have basically as many souls as you want. I dunno if it's "optimal" (I think there's supposed to be a better spot in Darkroot Forest?) but it's good.

Bullshit, you went on that huge rant at me about how there are "definitely no mimics in DS2" straight after I mentioned I was going to play it, you bastard

Yeah, I've tried this a few times and it does work!

I think I will spend a little time trying this out before re-attempting the S&O bosses. Some of the beasties are a bit frustrating and it'll be good to practice against them.
