To be honest I've never really had too much trouble with them, even on my first playthrough. As long as you can read the first one well enough to get in and do damage quickly, it should be mostly done by the time number 2 appears.

It's fairly standard, learn the signals for the attacks, respond accordingly.

I don't know if I'm "done" with Blighttown yet as I'm on my first play through and there may well be more to it that I haven't been through yet, but I always heard lots of people talking about the area like it was some major difficulty spike or something in the game but I never had much trouble going through it?

Okay!

I wasn't able to play yesterday, but I could do so now. Just need to get one chore out the way; I'll aim to start the stream at 16:20.

I was well pleased when I took it down, though. That boar helm sure does look cool :datass: .

The stream was then mainly about the Gargoyle kicking my butt. Repeatedly :x . I got a bit better, though; in one run I got about four hits on it  .

Finally, we had a classic moment of Souls comedy when some of the ghouls decided to have a dance-off  .

Thanks to Mafro and Grum for the clips  .

I remember on one of my runs up to the gargoyle I got invaded and the banana split was waiting for me by the fog gate. Split killed me and I went hollow.

Doesn't the Boar not respawn once you've killed it? I don't remember seeing since the first time?

Yeah, I'm playing in offline mode to avoid that kind of scenario!

I believe it stays dead, Jen. I can parade around wearing the boar helm now :-) . It's heavy, though, so probs better for show rather than using in battle.

Are you using heavy attacks Jawa? With such low stamina, find the best tactic is to get a light hit in, then have enough stamina to roll away or through any attacks. What you DON'T want to do is get excited and just mash light attack and leave no stamina to roll or block.

The two-handed strong attack from the Zweihander staggers the Gargoyle so you can basically stun lock it if you time it right and have enough stamina.

Poke then roll is always a solid strategy Jawa! Focus on dodging, spacing, then get a quick slash in when he's vulnerable -- but make sure you're away again before he recovers.

Yeah, Ad, a couple of folk on the stream advised me to use lighter attacks so that I have enough stamina remaining to quickly move away.

Ad7 wrote:...What you DON'T want to do is get excited and just mash light attack and leave no stamina to roll or block.

... . This did happen a couple of times; I got a couple of hits in, became a bit excited and forgot about moving away!

I guess the Zweihander is gained by running through the graveyard area? I dunno if I want to attempt that, Mafro!

I think that's the trick, Karl; getting close enough to make a hit but then moving back quickly. I aim to keep going and hopefully I'll get a better feel for the Gargoyle(s) movement.

Okay, big decision time.

Apparently I consumed something (a soul gem?) that I should have kept and handed over to the guy by the Firelink shrine so that he could reinforce my Estus Flask. Is this such a bad move that I should consider restarting the game? I don't want to struggle on if having a reinforced flask would make a big difference.

Sounds like you consumed the Firekeeper's Soul you get in the church. If you give that to the firekeeper under Firelink Shrine she powers up your Estus Flask so you recover more health when you use it. There are others in the game you can get later by killing some innocent NPCs.

^^^ What Maf and Hat said!

While it's true that you missed an easy one, there are a few more Firekeeper Souls in the game at various points (and a few more beyond that if you're willing to slaughter some cute innocent NPCs  ). I just reminded myself where they are and you could actually go pick one of them up right now pretty easily, though you'd have to sprint into a slightly higher-level area to do it (you'd probably die after you pick it up and various grizzlies catch up with you, but you just respawn like after any other death, so that's OK!). I can post a mini guide on how to do this if you want, or you can just wait until you get there naturally.

You can hold down "use item" (X? Dunno on PS4) and keep it held through the animation to drink two Estus Flasks at once if you need a bigger health boost than you're currently getting.

It's definitely not worth restarting over. Making silly mistakes and thinking "ah, shite, I won't do that on my next playthrough!" is a part of the Dark Souls experience.
