Do you have any idea why you're dying to them so consistently? Are you still only fighting the one, or has the second started showing up?

For example, when I was fighting some end-game DS2 bosses, what was killing me wasn't dodging, wasn't my damage output prolonging the fight and wasn't the bosses movesets. It was being too impatient to heal and getting hit whilst doing so. I realised I was never ever using up all my Estus and I was basically panicking and healing straight after taking big damage instead of staying calm, dodging attacks and healing when there's an opening.

From watching a brief 20 second video of you fighting a gargoyle, it seemed to be like you were getting greedy with hits and stamina. They have quite long reach with their weapon, so it's best to get in and just get a solitary hit, rather than taking two, running out of stamina and getting caught. Stamina management is probably 80% of all boss battles.

The main reasons Jawa hasn't beaten them yet is

a) when he needs to heal and a gap opens he attacks instead
b) the boss is a dick

I've tried nudging him towards 2 handing now he seems to be quite good at getting into safe spots but he is understandably cautious. It's not helped by the fact he has to heal more because of the fire keeper soul thing. If this was one v one Jawa would have triumphed ages ago. For he is master Souls player.

Jawa has improved so much while I've been watching him. If he overcomes this he'll be a real Souls pro.

His biggest obstacle is going to be getting distracted and going off and buying another game when he's got enough games to last him until the heat death of the universe.

Anyone can beat a Souls game, it's giving up that's the real part to the Dark Side.

Jawa dodges the gargoyles much better than me. But I've now got a Zweihander +5 :datass:

Why don't you summon Jawa?

Jawa doesn't even want to connect to the online, so he can't even use the single-player, NPC summons he's earned. :( I reckon he would do it with a summon easily.

Hey, all, thank you :-).

I am determined to defeat these two gargoyles. They're absolute [beep]s.

I've got close a few times now; tails have been lopped and, on one occasion, the first gargoyle was down to his last bit of energy.

Avoiding the flames is the real challenge and, if they both start doing that, it's tough. I'm usually getting in nice and close but, yeah, I need to be cautious in the number of hits and watch my stamina. A couple of times yesterday I used up my stamina and so my blocking failed.

I'm resistant to calling in a helper because I want to feel the exhilaration of defeating the gargoyles solo. It's super tough but I want to win.

I respect that! I had a similar feeling for my first run. You're definitely levelling up your Dark Souls skills by trying it solo.

Saying that -- the NPC summons are very much part of the single player experience. You often have to do certain things to unlock them, the characters form part of the story, etc. I think if I could go back and convince myself "NPC summons are OK" I would. If not for the Gargoyles, then definitely for some of the latter bosses. Just something to bear in mind, up to you of course

You can do it hun x

Iirc, you can use the slope of the roof to hide from the flames if you're lucky.

As I said before, when I tried the other day I found the controls so slow and clunky compared to dark souls 3, to the point where it was that getting in the way more than the fight itself. If that's been sorted for the remaster then you can definitely do it.

Also, try not having the shield at all and two handing your weapon but use light attacks.
