Slightly more spoilery thoughts (Jawa don't click this!):

(Double spoilers in case Jawa clicked. ;) )

The problem with Dark Souls'... "flow", if you like, is that Anor Londo is the game's peak, but it happens about half-way through the game for most people. After that, you're sent on four quests, to
1. Demon Ruins and Lost Izalith
2. The Catacombs and the Tomb of Giants
3. Duke's Archives
4. Darkroot Garden and New Londo.
Plus, optionally
5. Darkroot Basin and the Artorias of the Abyss DLC.

I would say that the first genuinely sucks and the second is mediocre. What I've played & seen of the rest have actually been pretty good, but not quite as good as the first half of the game. (I haven't ever finished all those areas though, I tend to burn out by that point.)

Most of those side-quests have an easy-ish lead-in area you can finish before you do Sen's Fortress, which make them feel a bit more natural and less like a chore, but the game doesn't push you to do that. I feel like taking the time to do the Catacombs after the Bell Gargoyles, and Demon Ruins after Quelaag, would be a fun enough way to tackle those areas.

Interesting, thanks Karl.

I think I've pushed out quite far into some of these areas already, I've been enjoying exploring everywhere that has been available to me for the most part so unless I've come up against something way overpowered/annoying (like those bloody giant skeletons in what I'm assuming is the Tomb of the Giants!) or a genuine barrier (like the yellow fog) then I think I've seen a reasonable amount of stuff already.

Gonna have to get back on this tonight now I think!

He's just putting 3 levels into Dex to bring him up to the 18 required to wield it.

After that it's all STR, END and VIT.

I'm assuming different weapons scale with different stats? I've been using my battle axe and spear for a lot of the game and those seem to gain more attack power from DEX than they do from putting points into STR?

Yeah. You need too look at the letter grades the weapons have for scaling. I think its A-E (might be an S to?). If you have two weapons with the same base damage then the weapon with the better rank will do more damage depending on your stats.

All weapons will have a rank next the stat in their details. This indicate how they scale with that stat. "-" means they don't.

The scaling rank can increase as you level up the weapon.

If a weapon has B Str scaling and D Dex Scaling you'll get more return on putting points in Str, not Dex

Most weapons tend to scale better with either STR or Dex. Some are equal.

Spells/Miracles etc are a little more complicated.

Ah okay, thanks for that. I had kind of pieced together that the letters indicated the scaling but it's nice to have clarification.

At the end of the day I tend to just look at which numbers go up more when I up one stat versus another and make a decision that way!

Yeah jawa I was told no dark souls because I stayed up two nights in a row playing it. I wasn't expecting to get that engrossed in simply replaying areas I've already seen, and I haven't even finished my first save on another system.

I did one drop attack on the Capra demon and then just avoided/shielded most attacks and wailed on him.

I know that upgrading weapons stops at maybe +10 and then you have to convert them to a magic weapon and upgrade them again. But DON'T choose the "raw" weapon type, I can't remember why but it's shite.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

...oops - sorry, guys, I can't stream tomorrow (today) as I'm not gonna be around in the afternoon and then I'm off to watch the football final... which I'd forgotten about :fp: . Will hopefully continue the Souls journey on Thurs / Fri and will confirm in advance.

I find your lack of commitment to our streaming schedule disturbing.

;)

Had a first bash on this since about February last night, doing some light exploration of Anor Londo. There are an awful lot of those silver knights about the place aren't there! Managed to jump off a sprial staircase into an area that I think I was supposed to access in a more round about way which was fun, although there's another one of those big bastards that drag themselves across the floor, Titanite Demons I think their called? Had a couple of goes at him but he's in such a confined space that it was had to see him let alone dodge his attacks most of the time!
