If you go into the weapon status it should show the damage as 220 + X. This X is the number that is from your weapon scaling and should be putting you over the Drake Sword.

How come I can't summon help at all bonfires or is it simply there not being anyone online? I would really like some help doing the dark root garden after having killed the hydra after 10 goes! The black knight sword is actually at 282, rather than 220 as I first thought as it upgrades everytime I level up. It is a bit slow though in its animation compared to the drake sword isn't it?

DR Basin is wierd - the hydra isn't a "boss" as such, and not many people summon there.

There's also restrictions on who you can summon/be summoned by based on level (unless you're MASSIVELY over/underlevels, but like 30 levels it shouldn't matter)

Try looking around other places for summon signs than near the bonfire, the slope into the open bit of the basin before the crystals/hydra spots you is popular.

What platform - I could help if you want on PS4

Sounds right level - probably just not many around then.

Hyrdra's not hard. Stand just on shore to the right most end so it melees.

Easy way to kill the Hydra

- If you haven't gone there already, go back to the Undead Asylum and there is a door to the left of the starting area which is easy to miss. This will take you to the "Lower Taint".
- Kill Any/all Grobens you come across and continue forward until you meet the black stranger. DON'T ATTACK HIM
- Listen to what he says (or you can just skip until he keeps repeating himself), then kill him.
- He will drop the 'Ring of Paranium'. Pick this up and then go up the ladder and this will bring you back to the room where Havel was/is.
- Run past Havel (or talk to him if you like as he wont attack you if you have equipped the ring) Then carry on up the stairs to the top of the tower.
- At the top, speak to 'Feltch the armourer' and he will give you a 'Flangestone' (IMPORTANT - Don't equip it)
- Go back to 'Firelink shrine' and pick the 'Covenant of bayge' from 'Arquete' , she will upgrade the Flangestone to a Flangestone +1
- Also buy a flask of "Rusty Pipe Water"
- You simply need to take that, along with the 'brown pebble' (from the starting area) back to the 4th white tree in the forest by the Hydra (about halfway down on the left) Drop the pebble and drink the from the flask.
- A cutscene will play and the Hydra will die and the lake will drain. This will then take you to the "He Mel Hem Stead", prob the best level of the game IMO.

Good luck.

That's such an accurate representation of Dark Souls side-quests.

Is this even a spoiler at this point? I mean it's fairly obvious this is what you're meant to do.

Can anyone help with with the beginning of sens fortress or help down the stray demon? I may get the 20,000 souls to open the artorias door. I seemed to have wasted my twinkling titanite on a great knight sword I cannot even wield!

Easiest way to kill the hydra is to first kill all the crystal golems then run behind the rock towards the right side of the shore. It's kind of a safe place but you still might get hit a bit. When it's close enough to you it stops doing the projectile attack and just does the head slam attack which you can just block and attack each head.

Flangestone

Sens fortress is easy, just aggro the lizard men and run back, at least one of them will step on a trap that shoots them for 2/3rds of HP off, then just roll around and wail on them. Use the pillars as cover.

Sounds like you need to grind for a while though. I got stuck in the undead burg and became totally over levelled.

Darkroot is also easy if you just charge and two hand all the tree things.

If you are going for strength/dex then upgrading the black leather armour is a good shout to avoid fat rolling but still be able to take a few hits. The forest shield is good as it recovers stamina.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Apparently you can dupe boss souls by:

Change character to dual hand
Press Start and highlight boss souls
Press X, then immediately Start
On the left side near the endurance bar there should be some text like 'select item'
Press start and go to estus flask
Use the estus flask and it will prompt to use the boss soul
Select Yes and you will get the souls and the boss soul will still be in your inventory!
