I started
Dark Souls today
/
. I played three hours this afternoon and another forty minutes just now... but I've probs got about fifteen minutes into the game
.
The gothic styling is cool and I like the dark atmosphere. I'm slowly - very slowly - getting to grips with the controls and menus; it doesn't help that barely anything is explained but I recognise that is part of the appeal. Movement seems to be the real learning point - you don't have to be fast, but timing is crucial. Defence and attack has to be thought about and I spent ages flailing around. Thankfully some of the stream viewers helped me out on a few aspects
.
I eventually beat that first big baddie and I felt like a Souls Pro
. Moving on I have gotten a bit further though I struggled against a dude with a pike; I don't know how to beat him and he duffed me up about four times. Eventually I got away from him by... uhm... running. It did the trick! Then I got demolished in about two seconds by a beastie called Taurus Demon. I had to stop at that point as I was all Souls-ed out.
I am struggling a little bit with the idea of re-starting each time; it can be frustrating to keep re-doing sections just to die quickly at a challenging point. But, hey, I'm making progress and that's all part of the Souls experience.
And, yeah, I need to git gud.
