Darkroot Basin, part 1 - wanted to take another stab at Havel as I figured if I could avoid his heavy attack I could probably just circle-strafe him to death. His armour must be made of vibranium as I barely made a dent with the Drake Sword, and then he adapted his attack and WHAM one-shotted me. Absolutely brutal

Darkroot Basin, part 2 - feeling a bit chastened by the ease at which Havel continues to hammer me into dust, I figured I'd leave him for a (long) while and see what the hydra fight would be like. Managed to easily dispatch the giant ice/crystal golems by just drawing them out 1 at a time, not taking any damage at all in the process. Approached the hydra and even from quite a distance it starting firing water at me, decimating my health in 1 hit. Managed to avoid any further hits but had to run away with my tail between my legs, clearly nowhere near ready for that battle.

Valley of the Drakes, part DEATH - headed away from the basin and went through the tunnel out to the Valley of the Drakes, figured I'd have a proper go at fighting one of them. Again - instant death :fp:

Struggling a bit with this now, seems like every path of progression is walled off behind some impassable monstrosity that just annihilates me :(

Little help?

Darkroot is an optional area at this point.

If you head down the stairs at the fog-gate for the Capra Demon you'll come across two doors. One on the left opens a shortcut back to Firelink/Undead Burgh, the one on the right is where your next batch of progress will come from.

Is that a question or a statement? :slol:

I have beaten the Capra Demon, yes. Actually that reminds me, there is a door opposite the tower than you can go up that leads back to the Firelink aquaduct - not tried to even open it but perhaps that is worth exploring?

edit: thanks Cheeky ;)

The thought of having to trek from Darkroot Basin all the way back to that door makes me feel a bit blurgh - perhaps I'll do it on my lunch break so that if I get on it this evening I can just start the adventuring right away.

You need to head down to the other bell.
Look around where the Capra Demon was

Trying to pick this up on the cheap for Switch on ebay.

Why is it so expensive?

It's not too far if you have the shortcut opened to firelink from the Parish where you fought the Gargoyles.

Also stock up on poison/toxic cures. You will need them!

Killed Queelag and Moonlight Butterfly last night.

Been to the depths yet? I went there after Capra Demon and it was manageable.

You'll encounter a couple of mini bosses kind of early, but once you're past them, the enemies are easy enough to dispatch, just watch out for surprises

Don't think Preezy has mentioned the Catacombs at all yet either? Another avenue for exploration if you want something a bit different.

Havel is essentially the backstabbing tutorial. Just keep trying to circle around him and press attack when you're right behind.

I can't remember there being anything worthwhile in Valley of the Drakes apart from it connecting to another area which lets you skip Capra Demon entirely. You don't have to fight anything in Valley of the Drakes, you can run past them all.

There are 2 areas that I've just not set foot in after very early deadly encounters when I first started the game:

- past the graveyard where the Skeletons are hanging about; and
- down the lift from Firelink Shrine where these ghosts attack you (New Londo Ruins?)

I will go into the depths first and then once I'm totally all buff and studly I'll see what those areas have to offer - I imagine it will be endless suffering, but you never know they might be quite nice places to hang out :)

Suffering is all part of the fun!

Catacombs is the first of those two areas. Worth a look as killing a boss gives you something good.

New Londo Ruins is probably one to come back to later.

Still can't understand why everyone was so down on this version of the game. It's great on Xbox One. Rarely drops frames, looks great with the new lighting and increased texture resolution.

I guess people wanted them to fix the obvious flaws in the experience? Dunno. Fanbases are strawberry floating weird.

I think this is a great version, it runs brilliantly and the small quality of life improvements like switching covenants at a bonfire are a welcome addition.

I think people were expecting a completely reworked Lost Izalith, which is ridiculous because of the amount of work it would have taken. Even though that area is a bit gooseberry fool, for me it just feels like part of the game. Changing it would have had just as many people complaining.

Am I the only person that doesn't mind Lost Izalith and Demon Ruins? I mean Bed of Chaos can get in the sea but the rest I thought was okay.

I didn't really dislike any areas. Some are better than others but all of them are at least good!

I dislike New Londo Ruins more because of the nonsense enemies.
