Is there anything else I can easily grab early in the game that's useful? I've got the fire keeper soul from new londo. I've killed Knight laurtec.

Been so long since I've played this I've forgotten how the map links together.

You can do Havel really early for Havel's Ring. He's in the basement of the tower that led to the Taurus Demon, which leads on to Darkroot Basin.

It's also pretty easy to kamikaze into Blighttown via the Valley of Drakes to get the third Fire Keeper Soul there. (Just don't expect to make it out again!)

You don't need the Master Key for this, but you can get to Vamos in the Catacombs straight away too for Fire upgrades if that appeals to you. (In fact you can skip the entire Catacombs and take on Pinwheel if you jump off the ledge near the first bridge, then continue jumping down the cliff - it's not a terribly difficult fight and the Mask that drops will be pretty good headwear.)

Again, no need for Masker Key, but if you're on the lookout for the Elite Knight Set, that's straightforward to grab from Darkroot Garden. The Knight Set and Grass Crest Shield is down in Darkroot Basin while you're there, guarded by the Hydra and a Black Knight respectively.

At the bottom of darkroot basin, before you descent towards the Hydra, there is a sneaky path down to the bottom where you will find a Black Knight, bonfire and an elevator so somewhere cool.

It's a rare drop but the Knight can drop the Black Knight Halberd which is fantastic. The only other chance you'll get to find it is in the very final moments of the game

Mace +5 is outrageous  just beat the gooseberry fool out of Capra Demon. He was basically stun locked for the whole fight.

Im going to shortcut Depths (can't stand the curse frogs) straight to Gaping Dragon boss now. Want the Souls to keep pumping up my stats.

I started this the other day - the first Souls game I’ve played. Spent ages fighting the skeletons in the graveyard (as in I probably died about 30 times ) after getting out of the opening area, before realising it was completely pointless. After faffing about Undead Burg for a while and finding my first merchant, I took on some powerful ogre thing down a spiral staircase which destroyed me 3 or 4 times. Figured I’d come back to this when I was better/more powerful, I then faced the Taurus Demon up ahead. Somehow killed it on my 2nd try (mainly by staying between his legs :datass:) and am currently under a bridge hiding from a big scary dragon.

This game doesn’t really tell you much about... well, anything, does it? I started off as the class which gives you a master key(?) and have been generally putting my souls into around 1/3 strength, 1/3 endurance and 1/3 other stuff... but have no idea if that’s what I should be doing. I don’t really want to look up anything online in case I spoil the ‘going in raw’ experience for myself, but is there anything I should bear in mind in the early game to point me in the right direction? I guess I’m asking for basic general tips rather than anything game changing.

I’m loving this so far and can totally see how this gets its claws into people. When I beat the Dark Knight in Undead Burg I almost woke up my napping daughter with my excitement  so satisfying.

Beat Gaping Dragon and have picked up the items suggested to me at the top of the page.

I want lightning spear miracle now before blighttown but am nowhere near the faith level to get it. Might go back to the Asylum and do Stray Demon for the Souls.

Thanks! Everything so far that has seemed like an enemy, has been an enemy... apart from a couple of friendlies I guess, who I tried locking onto just in case :shifty: I’ll keep that in mind.

You might want to use the Morning Star instead of the Mace for the Stray Demon. You'll see why if you give it a go.

Had a go last night and was reminded of why Ive left this boss for later in the game before. Its probably doable but the fall damage you have to take at the start of the fight makes the effort involved more than I'm willing to input atm. So Ive picked up the rusty ring and crest shield and left the Asylum.

Gave large ember to blacksmith and have taken the Mace to +7 now. Going to B Town now.

Not attacking things until you are sure they’re hostile is deffo a great bit of advice. Doubly true if you are familiar with Painted World and then play Dark Souls 2.

I've made it to Anal Rodeo with the following stats

Level 45

Vit 25
Att 12
End 19
Str 23
Dex 8
Res 11
Int 8
Fai 21

Mace +10
Balder Shield
Elite knight set
Havel ring
Cloranthy ring

Heal miracle
Homeward / force miracle

I have not encountered any real difficulties so far and have been OP for just about everything. The star of the show is the Mace, nothing can stand up to it.

Following a build is quite liberating when it comes to exploring areas because I don't need to worry about picking up a load of items I will not need. Blighttown was very straightforward in this respect.

I'm going to keep pumping str, vit and faith for now and then will spend some on end so I can lose havel ring.

Anor londo and Sif down.

Is there a way to get the Sunlight Warrior medals without doing co op? I want the next lighting spear but because Im playing offline I seemingly can't get the medals needed for that covenant. Will be a bit annoyed if that's the case.
