strawberry float, I had no idea he was even ill. He only just had an album out last week so I'd been listening to him over the weekend.

Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust are all absolute classic albums.

What shitty strawberry floating news. Feel bad for his family.

Very sad news, true musical icon. Grew up with his music around me as he is above and beyond my dads favourite artist, I know he will be devastated by this.

Knew he had health problems a few years back but didn't know he had cancer. Great documentary on iplayer called Five Years I think, watched earlier this year.

His new Black Star video is awesome, need to give the album a go.

RIP.

The man went out in style. Enigmatic and original until the end.

'...This way or no way
You know I'll be free
Just like that bluebird
Now, ain't that just like me..?'

Hard to say just how important Bowie was to my much younger self. I know I learned to play guitar by practicing to a Bowie song book (which I still have - published in 1976), and I had been a fan since the original release of 'Space Oddity' in 1969. By the time the mid-70s came around I was fully hooked on his music. Trying to pick a favourite track is an impossible task, but I'll have to go for something like 'We Are The Dead' off his 1974 Diamond Dogs album. But there really are so many others... too many, really.

Unique, original, endlessly inventive. Bowie was all of this, but he was also a consummate showman. An entertainer. For decades he fooled generations into buying his 'I'm a bisexual' schtick - none of it was true and none of it has ever been shown to be true (quite the opposite, if his personal life is anything to go by), but we didn't care. It was just great to see someone like him poncing about on stage, or on national TV, flirting with his sexuality - what we used to call 'gender-bending'.

He will be missed. RIP, David. Thanks for all the music. Man, it was great.

My favorite song is man who sold the world and this little story always amused me regarding Nirvana.

In the wake of its release, Bowie bemoaned the fact that when he performed the number himself he would encounter "kids that come up afterwards and say, 'It's cool you're doing a Nirvana song.' And I think, 'strawberry float you, you little tosser!'"

 I was the same when i was in school and people said have you heard that great song written by Nirvana. i heard the song and told them to strawberry float off.

It's a good version of the song though i have to admit that.Actually i love the version in MGS5 as well.

EDIT: Blimey didn't realise it was done by Midge Ure

David Bowie didn't feel the need to conform musically or stylistically. He did his own thing.
Rest in Peace.

I always loved this:

Note: Labyrinth is available on Netflix Mexico. I think I'm going to make time for a re-watch.

I wouldn't say I'm a massive Bowie fan, but I do have his greatest hits albums on cassette (!) and CD. With such a vast catalogue it is difficult to think that anyone could not like at least one of his songs. A massive talent.

I feel physically sick

Unparalleled as a solo artist for me. Constantly produced quality music covering several genres. Always experimental. Also the first solo performer to reinvent himself as much as he did from a music and an artistic/fashion point of view.

The recent exhibition at the victoria and albert was eye-opening.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of listening to his back catalogue, and for that I'm very grateful

RIP

Of all my musical instruments, if asked to save just one, it would have to be my beloved Yamaha 12-string semi-acoustic guitar. My love affair with 12-string guitars began with the music of David Bowie. In the earlier pre-80's part of his career Bowie was a 12-string champion and could regularly be seen using one on stage. It's a beautiful sound - rich, lustrous, extremely evocative.

Here's a beautiful example of Bowie's 12-string sound - and a heart-breaking song, to boot...

He was a fine songwriter - not always, but when he did it right, he really did it right.

Actually shocked by this. I had no idea he had cancer though. I've not listened to his music in a while but was thinking of listening to his new album the other day. Always liked most of his stuff. My mum was a massive fan back in the day. She even named my brother after him. I'm sure she will be a little sad today.

I'll give him a listen today.

strawberry float cancer.

I was gutted hearing the news, I was hoping he might of done a farewell tour after releasing Blackstar. Never realised he was ill.

My favourite of his most recent work is Valentine's Day, it so brilliant, classic Bowie.
