I spent my childhood scared stiff of bowie because of the labyrinth. As a result I grew up avoiding him where possible. Having watched a few tributes this morning to him I now know that he's done a lot more good songs than I knew.

The Royal Albert Hall website just shared this from 2006. They believe it was Bowie's final live performance in the UK, as a special guest at a David Gilmour gig

Hallo Spaceboy (with the Pet Shop Boys)

'And I want to be free
Don't you want to be free?
Do you like girls or boys
It's confusing these days
But Moondust will cover you...
...Cover you'

Slip Away

Don't forget to keep your head warm,
Twinkle, twinkle Uncle Floyd
Watching all the world and war torn
How I wonder where you are?

Sailing over Coney Island
Twinkle, twinkle Uncle Floyd
We were dumb but you were fun, boy
How I wonder where you are?

We Are The Dead (from Diamond Dogs, 1974)

Something kind of hit me today...
I looked at you and wondered if you saw things my way
People will hold us to blame,
It hit me today, it hit me today

We're taking it hard all the time
Why don't we pass it by?
Just reply, you've changed your mind
We're fighting with the eyes of the blind
Taking it hard, taking it hard

It probably didn't help.

Being serious he really freaked me out as a kid in that film.

Yep - another great one. TBH there are sooo many... Young Americans, Can You Hear Me?, Life On Mars?, Space Oddity, This Is Not America, Loving The Alien... I mean, it's a huge list and it goes on and on. The man was an amazing artist. A very sad day. Can't believe he's gone, really. :(

Genuinely gutted by this, I'm not a massive fan but like a lot of his stuff as I grew up with a lot of his music being played by my parents.

RIP man.

I always think of Bowie as being as much of an artist as a musician. So many styles... so much change. Incredible.

Bowie was my favourite solo artist and it's weird saying that in the past tense. I was hoping out hope a tour was going to happen what with the recent album releases but the rumours that his health hasn't been great were around since before the 2012 Olympics. :(

RIP.

Labyrinth for me, must have watched it 100 times as a kid and had no idea Bowie was a music icon at the time. Thinking of that role, there is literally nobody I could see filling a role like that if they ever did a remake.

I wonder in 30 odd years what stars of today will be remembered so fondly. I can't think of a modern solo star anywhere near the likes of these legends.
