We all kind of guessed this to be true, but at least there has been an official confirmation at Leipzig ( as well as a new trailer)..

Should be good, including the Tyranids should offer something different at least. Any in game footage yet?

I've just been reading through the quotes regarding Tyranids on Wikiquote. They are truly the most terrifying race in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, matched only perhaps by the deathly Necrons, whom the Tyranids seem to avoid like the plague where and when possible. This is favourite quote, and though it may not be long and descriptive and info-packed like some quotes, it's easily best...

"The thing that scares me most of all is that it burst out from the jungle directly in front of our ambush position. It had killed Jensen and Lucca before we knew what was happening. Nothing that large should be able to move like that."
- Sergeant Thresher, 11th Catachan Jungle Fighter, after encountering a Tyranid Lictor

I dislike the nid fluff in that they are extra-galactic , having wiped out whole GALAXIES before, and now they come to this fractured galaxy, it's only a matter of time before it falls. Of course they'll never advance the fluff that far, but it seems every tyranid victory takes planets away from the Impirium, whereas every defeat is " oh well plenty more where that came from".

O_O that screenshot looks pretty cool. The video looks extremely camp. Maybe i should try the first one, not really a RTS fan, but the Anthology is super cheap. Is there much of a learning curve with the original or will i be expected to know how to play RTS lol

There's a learning curve, you're eased into things quite nicely.

Tyranids!

This game looks amazing and I'd definitely buy it if I had a computer that wasn't a bag of gooseberry fool. If I tried to play DoW2 on it, it'd probably blow up. Not that I could install it anyway. Both my DVD and CD drives have died.

The first person to say that Tyranids are a rip-off of the Zerg, wins an internet gold medal.

I think the Tyranids came BEFORE the Zerg...

Starcraft evolved from Warhammer 40k, therefore every race in Starcraft can be said to have evolved from 40ks concepts. This includes Tyranids, who had their own dedicated game in Space Hulk in 1989 and have been involved in 40k tabletop games since at least that point.

That was...kind of my point. Almost every race in WC and SC is lifted from Warhammer.

WarCraft and StarCraft basically are Warhammer and 40K. Heck, the original WarCraft was meant to be a Warhammer game until Blizz and GW fell out. That doesn't mean Blizzards Universii (...) aren't better in every way, though. ;)

Space Hulk was not really Tyranids though, just Genestealers, which are a rip off of the Alien films. Tyranids came much later, after Starship troopers probably, with Some fluff about how Genestealers were the envoys of the Tyranids.

Advanced Space Crusade is the game you want, it came out in 1990 and was definitely Tyranids

I still have this in a cupboard at home.
