I've got the patch, and it seems to be okay.

Something is off with that Tucker.

Yep, the reviews really did get it wrong and it's not the first time either. I see little reason to put much stock in game reviews.

Last area certainly turns up the challenge.

This is a definite 8/10 game maybe creeping higher depending on how much you love the story.

I'm loving the game and can't recommend it highly enough. The complaints against the game seem to be it does nothing new. Except... It does. The horde is a new game mechanic that massively changes combat and strategy. It has no predatory practices within the game to milk more money from players. It had a couple of bugs which were minor and also fixed.

Reviews mention it's not god of war or Spiderman. So therefore it's a failure. On its own merits it's amazing and it's not really fair to compare it to different genres. It's like reviewing the next Marvel movie and saying, well it ain't End Game.

In short..... If you buy this game you'll have a great time and just like Mad Max this is a game that will be looked on fondly for years.

Wish my image sig would work

The beginning of the video Sam posted does make an interesting point about game reviewers seemingly just ploughing through to the end of a game just to get the review out, only focusing on one aspect they don't like and scoring it accordingly, ignoring pretty much any positive element in the process. In the case of Days Gone the brilliantly realised game world and, as you point out, The Horde and how it changes the pace and stategy which unquestionably sets it apart from other open world games - a fact pretty much ignored by the brunt of the press which makes me suspicious as to how much of Days Gone they actually played.

There's no question many a game has suffered the same fate over the years at the hands of these video game "journalists". I've said it before, but it's obvious some developers/publishers also get a much easier ride than others. Will the next GTA, for example, be criticised for doing what it's always done with the same fetch quest missions etc that it will no doubt have in spades? I doubt it.

It's at 72 on metacritic, might be a little low but it's not exactly like the game got panned. I'm really enjoying it (even though I won't be able to play for a week!) and I'd probably give it a solid 7. That's a good game.

True, but I'm speaking generally about reviews. Just a few examples.

Conan Exiles 68% - I've poured around 150 hours into it

State of Decay 2 66% - 60+ hours

No Man's Sky 71% - 200+ hours

I guess what I like or want in a game is very different, which is why I decided to put aside that I (stupidly) got caught up in the negativity of Fallout 76 and give it a go. Hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow.

Anyway, I didn't get any gaming done last night so am back to Days Gone this evening. 8-)

I always bear in mind that reviews aren't necessarily done by people who are fans of the genre/setting/franchise, so if I am then my experience of the game is likely going to be better than the average review score. I like post-apocalypse setting - zombies especially - and open world survival, so when I see 72 for Days Gone it seems like a safe bet. There will be reviewers out there who mark it down for being another zombie game, and I think that's a fair opinion, just not one that is going to match my own.

I'm sad I can't play my ps4 atm anyway :(

I wish! The waste pipe in our house blocked up and was overflowing back into the living room through the floor, so while it is being fixed and disinfected (and the carpet replaced) the landlord has put us up in a hotel. So I've just got my laptop and Switch to keep me going over the bank holiday unfortunately. Just when I was getting into the game too!

Destroyed my first horde. "Death Train Horde".

That was intense, followed by an immense sense of satisfaction as I casually walked around the area picking off stragglers with my semi-automatic.

Hey, I am looking for something good to play while i wait for days gone price to drop. I saw a lot of hype around the game and wondering if it's worth the buy even if i didn't play the previous ones (doubt i will). Would also like to know the Disney effect on the game because as an outsider it sounds like a children's game.

Thanks

It's a solid game, with small flaws.

The main thing is that if you enjoy it, that's all you need.

Initially, I struggled to get into it. But I preserved and two hours later, I liked it better. And it grew on me as I play more.

Just wish the game doesn't autosave after you took a big chuck of a horde. I got myself killed by the remaining, and suddenly the game loads up with all the traps and petrol tanker blew up, leaving me nothing to work with and the horde got restored. :slol:

It's easily fixed by make sure that I saved before going in camps but with nature of the game it can be hard to anticipate what's next.

I've been manually saving before each mission/camp to clear/whatever, gives more certainty in being able to jump back

Funnily enough Official PlayStation Magazine gave it 9/10 this month and I thought it rather stood out against all the criticism.

Official gaming mags have always been a little biased when it comes to exclusives and PSM is no exception so generally they're no more trustworthy than any other gaming site. That said I'd be interested to see what PSM had to say, particularly in light of other reviews that seemed to cling to one negative aspect and run with it for the entire of their review.

Personally I'd happily score Days Gone a 9 based on my own time with the game. I just think it's a great game and would confidently recommend it to anyone.

Riding through a snow storm looks great, however as soon as I entered a scripted event at one of the camps the storm stopped. Actually it disappeared, which was a bit disappointing.

Just done my first big horde. Really big and part of the story. Thankfully the game did give me a new item which helps just before the battle. I used a few proximity mines and ran a lot. Collected all the freaker ears and then cashed in.... 300 ears in total. Most of them from the horde.

Not really had a Relentless challenge in a game like the horde before. It's so satisfying when a planned route works and thus run into random traps and the XP just keeps flying. Up to level 28 I think. Maxed out all ranged and survival skills. Just starting on close quarter combat upgrades.

Wish my image sig would work
