Servers must have been getting hammered last night, I managed to join almost instantly earlier.

I logged off in the middle of one of the big towns. I bet when I log in I'll be surrounded by bandits or something :fp:

I wandered into the forest and laid prone in the bushes, reading the survival guide was pretty useful even though it doesn't explain the controls, which is the only hurdle at the moment,

Only just realised pressing V lets you vault over low fences and walls :fp:

Can't wait to have a good look around this place

People have been buying Operation Arrowhead just for this mod. The mod seems to be growing in popularity.

Can just anyone to host a server for the mod? Or do you have to pay stupid prices to someone like EA for a battlefield server?

This sounds like everything I wanted from l4d3! Shame about the server issues though...

I think I'll grab this at the next sale - please someone keep an eye out? Thanks.

People are volunteering to host it, you would have to mail the guys in charge to do so.

Seriously tempted by this, but my laptop is a bit hit and miss when it comes to what games it can play.

For instance, It can play Stalker, but not Amnesia. (won't load because it's an embedded GFX Card)

4GB RAM
Intel Core i5-2520M CPU @2.50GHz
Intel(R) HD graphics Family (2GB)

Whats Arma2 like to run? is is a resource hog or a bit fussy?

Very tempted to DL this now.

There is a free version of arma 2, give that a go and see how it runs.

Yeh you need at least the free version of Arma II anyway so try that. If it works then you just need to buy Operation Arrowhead and download the DayZ files.

I don't understand why nobody has made something like this before, especially with every other game having some form of zombie mode crammed into it.

Mines a bit crapper than that in the processor and ram department but the game runs fine on it. Not tried it with Operation Arrowhead.

Cheers for the advice and links. DL;ing free Arma now and will then Steam it all if success!

I love the idea of permanent death, not enough games will risk it nowadays.

Nobody but modders and small devs want to make these games.

When this catches on in popularity, be sure that EA and Ubisoft will rape the idea to death.

These guys are able to run the servers and allow people to host their own servers, while you the player aren't paying a cent. This kind of model is what gives multiplayer games their longevity; if you can make sure it isn't locked up arbitrarily and there's no subscription fee, you're going to have a player base. If the mod dies in popularity, maybe a few years down the line you and some randoms with a common interest will pool together a bit of cash for a server and run your own games on that.

Would love for a PCS DayZ server, but I don't know how taxing it would be hosting that as well as stuff like CSS and Killing Floor.

I don't know anything about hosting servers, so I wonder what winkle thinks.

I bet it would be taxing on the server we have even if we got rid of everything else.

I'm definitely willing to test it, if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work, but we could try a smallish server once they release some server binaries.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:
