Nearly a month now with same character but the servers are getting ever busier. I'm on the ship at mo and have been sniped at and also had a shoot off with another dude, he got it but manage to get away.

Seeing other players in this is genuinely terrifying but I love this game so much, looks gorgeous also.

Certainly looks a lot better than it used to. Probably why it stopped running well on my laptop

That ship is a death trap, good luck. I've died there a lot - sometimes just being sniped as I'm trying to leave

I managed to get out alive, I creeped out, then ran as fast as I could to the nearest point in the tree line then kept on going... I'm overlooking some town now that'll ill venture down to tonight.

It's released fully now on PC, again, it's a brand new engine so might work better than you remember.

Just updating this to say that Xbox version has been patched a ton since launch and is pretty much bug free at mo. Also, it has Hardcore servers now that force everyone into First person Perspective. I've made it up to the airfield and ill be exploring it tonight in FPP. Gonna be planking it the whole time.

I'm absolutely hooked on this, sure I lost a player of 2 months last week but I'm addicted to the grind, not least because it all looks so beautiful. There's something about DayZ that is jaw dropping, I think it's the feeling of remoteness in between towns and the rolling hills and thick forests that veer off into the far distance. I play on FPP servers mostly and creeping about an army camp looking for loot knowing that they are hot spots for others is terrifying.

Killed this dude on one such occasion, I was in TPP so I could peak things before I entered. This is in the far north west of the map, literally about 2-3hrs trek from were you spawn on the coast, this guy must have presumed no one was about as there were only 6 of us on server.

Stunning looking at times.

Is that so? May have to reinstall it and take a look.

Cross play is even planned when DayZ on Xbox gets M&K support.

I really wanted to like DayZ, but every time I would read about the "tonnes of new updates" I'd fire it up only to discover that it was still the same janky piece of gooseberry fool it was several month previous.

If there is genuine change and improvement then I will give it another shot.

I've never played on PC but I did watch a lot of it and as I said it's a brand new engine that was built from scratch just for this and the next Arma.

It's currently a tad janky frame rate wise in the cities on Xbox but devs said it's fixable and apparently fixed same issue on PC plus when this launched on Xbox the servers were all full and it ran at nearly locked 60fps so I think they can fix it, not an issue on PC tho.

DayZ has now launched officially on Xbox One and surprisingly went straight to 1.01 - exactly 1 update behind PC which it will match in a couple of weeks.

First Impressions are VERY good, it's running back at 60fps with a few hitches and the UI is VASTLY improved and responsive. Button mapping has changed for the better and you can now lean, hold breath and free look as you go. It's also native 4K on X which is lovely.

Launch Gameplay trailer - explains what you do in the game:

Dayz has never been a particularly challenging game when it came to it's survival side but right now it's a joke, no actually it's completely non existent! I can drink an entire gas canister full of fuel, eat raw human meat whilst completely naked in the pouring rain and still not die of sickness. In fact my character will actually become more healthy because the raw meat keeps you fed and hydrated. This game is being marketed as a 1.0 yet it's core element isn't even present. I've had a harder time staying alive playing Minecraft peaceful mode than i've had playing Dayz in it's current state.

Whens the last time you played it? If you walk around bare footed you bleed to death.

Bar the sickness being borked (although cannibalism makes you talk to yourself, being naked and wet gives you a cold making you cough - both alerting z's and other players where you are), it's still hard to stay alive cos of other players and zombies.... basically 2 of the biggest killers in the game you've ignored.

I'd like to see how you'd cope at the Airport for more than a few minutes.

Case in point, I was on top of a block of flats and took a pot shot at a guy who shot back, unfortunately for him, about 10 Z's started attacking him cos of his gun shots and he ran into my building where it had a few cos of my gunshot. I didn't hear him anymore after a bit so went down to investigate and found his body!

1 week on since it's full release and my char is still alive. I've actually picked up a rifle AND A SCOPE! 3 months now I've been playing this and never had a scope and rifle that were compatible, as such I'm a little bit precious when I enter a town. Games looks as lush as ever.

Have you had any non-violent encounters? My favourite times in DayZ were when trying to decide whether to trust someone who appears peaceful, the shoot on sight mentality isn't so much fun imo

Since full release (only a week ago) I've had 2 friendly encounters but I think that was only cos it was newbies, it's had a massive influx since launch, and I think it's more populated on Xbox than PC which is surprising. On preview I had a few friendly encounters but more often than not I got killed on sight. I fully expect to die soon as nearly all servers are at capacity in the EU. Kinda looking to hook up with a crew, so I've joined the DayZ group on Xbox to see whats up.

Makes sense it would be more active given the recent release. It's what's tempting me to get it on PS4 when it finally releases, for the player numbers and for having players who aren't all hardened murder-on-sight DayZers

I think it had more players even in preview, don't get me wrong now, the numbers aren't as big as massive AAA mp games, they'd be a fraction of PUBG's but when there's 57 servers (total number of EU servers 60ppl per sever) are full or high pop levels it's decent. Towns and cities with othe players about cause a dip in performance but they hopefully will fix it, It feels like it's server side rather than anything else. On PS4 hopefully it'll have the numbers too, the UI is easy to use now although a bit fidly, it's a far more polished experience than just a month ago.

Most impressive thing is the rate of updates, roughly 2 weeks behind PC and it'll keep doing it for the rest of the year at least.
