That would be fun. I need to get my MFG Crosswind pedals delivered, I was going to get some Slaws but thought the Crosswinds looked better for me.

DCS World Updates:

Haven't really updated this too much over recent weeks / months

Those of you who are fans of DCS world probably know most of the updates, but for those who might not venture to the eagle dynamics forums here is your hit of the good stuff (things I find interesting) :

Since the F-16 announcement what has been happening?

Aircraft Carrier Deck Crew Animations:

This will make carrier ops a lot more immersive and a good step in the right direction for Eagle Dynamics as ground units have been lacking development for some time.

General 'DCS Supercarrier' updates:

The Supercarrier will include the most accurate simulation of carrier communications you have ever heard in a game. This includes Case I, II, and III operations and unique voice overs for departure, marshal, approach, tower, the landing signal officer (LSO), and even messages over the 5 MC. Many of these parts are voiced by service members that filled the actual roles! We will also include the needed voice over files to support all aircraft types that have flown from a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, including the F-14.

To make the carrier deck feel alive, deck crew is a must. We are doing this through a combination of static-placed deck crew with animations that mission creators can place and fully pathed and animated deck crew that support launch operations from all four catapults. We are pushing this feature past anything that has been done before.

In addition to these three core areas, we are also working on / planning:
* Up to 18 spawning locations on the carrier deck.
* Flood lights in addition to standard lighting.
* Long Range Laser Lineup System.
* Barricade net.
* Deck equipment like the crane, fire truck, and mules.
* Detailed Landing Signal Officer (LSO) station with functional panels to control cut lights, wave off lights, manual ball control, and PLAT camera. This can be crewed while in VR.
* “Burble” effect behind the carrier.
* Air Boss station that can also be occupied in VR and allow control of the flood lights, barricade, and view the PLAT camera.
* Immersive, 3D, Ready Room with functions to view briefings, load aircraft, view PLAT camera, vie the * “Greenie Board”, view kill board that is tied to online statistics. All of this with a VR option.
* Combined Arms support for steering the carrier and using weapons.

Wake Turbulence:

Players have been experiencing wake turbulence in DCS for a few months now, but as in real life, you haven't yet seen it. Now using particle visualization, we can show you the turbulence in action for the first time.

F-16 updates:

Could list a bunch of pictures but instead here are a few videos 8-)

I always check this thread even though I will never play this game. The level of detail is really amazing. You considered streaming it at all, Kezzer? "Kez teaches GRcade how to fly planes" would be a great premise for some streams.

Flaming cliffs 3
Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
MiG-21bis

Looking to get the F/A-18, Gazelle and Harrier.

I have been looking around for a reasonable cyclic and collective but can't find anything.

I've thought about streaming but never really known where to start. Also don't really know about having the optimum setup for it? (*thinking emoji*) I've got OBS and it is linked to my twitch account, for that one time I did a Big Fat Ugly Douglas Adventure - lets play, but after that it hasn't had too much action

Its a shame there aren't any modern decent tank simulators like DCS, stuff like Iron Warriors: T-72 are pretty old at this point.

I can't wait to be flying it and falling out of the sky because I can't remember which button to press.

The animations for the landing gear are pretty bloody cool.

So my last post was before the lockdown really started, and now that we are a few months in I am back to playing this a bit more. I really toyed with the idea of listing out all the works that have been done since the start of the year, but there are just too damn many and all of them are at different stages of development. In honestly it would be too much work for 0 gain.

However, I like showing stuff here so lets take a look at what DCS has come from, and what we have in store for 2020 and beyond.

As a side note, I have been really getting back into this so purchased my first flight sim peripheral in about 7 years:

Also got the monsterTech desk clamp and MFD accessories for a better centre stick setup:

I think I am taking this a too seriously, but I am having fun..

made up my own Greenie board to track my progress on carrier landings:

Image

For the 9 landings I actually made - it took me 13 attempts to get onto the boat.

Out of the 9 landings only 7 'passed' - the other 2 were 'CUT' or unsafe

For the ones where I did get a pass mark:
5x --- No-grade. Below average but safe pass
1x (OK) Fair. Resonable deviations
1x OK Reasonable deviations with good Corrections

So far no _OK_ or 'Perfect pass' just yet :shifty:

In between the vast majority of attempts I had to push to the tanker for some AAR as the practice mission only starts with around 4000lbs of fuel (which I seem to burn through very quickly :dread: )
My God, was that frustrating. So many disconnects. :fp:

Forgot to say, I finally gave this a go a few weeks back. I used my hotas and vr, it was pretty cool actually. Funnily my wife enjoyed playing it too, I didn't think she'd be in to that type of game.

Its been a slow trek to get to this stage

I got TrackIR when FSX came out, and my flight controls when I was in college (my god that was 10 years ago :dread: )

it's not finished and no doubt never will be :fp:

Must have been pretty decent with VR? I can imagine having to actually look over your shoulder etc to spot enemies. :o

Would love to try it one day but will need a bit of a better machine to run it.

It's great in VR. A very real feeling of being sat in a cockpit. Coupled with your setup it'd be incredible! I'm only using the free dcs setup, so have limited missions but the best has been landing at night because in near darkness, the instruments being lit up feel very real and cosy. It's great peering over the sides to spot things too.

Was a bit sceptical that my latest modification to my set up was worth it:

Image

But after trying it, gotta say having that bit of leverage on the flightstick really helps for smooth control input. I am no longer fighting the spring mechanism and I can input finer control.

So much so my last LSO grade for a carrier landing was:

(OK) _TMRDAR_ WIRE#3 [BC]

only issue there being To Much Rate of Decent At the Ramp (TMRDAR) and I didn't call the ball ([BC])

And I wasn't even trying that hard and and just looped in with a really shoddy pattern approach
