Arcade football games, namely International Superstar Soccer. (Which was actually a fantastic mix of both arcade and sim.)

I second this as the races in London were amazing.
Even on a Dreamcast it looked great but on a PS4 or 5 (If they started development now) it could look utterly outstanding.
They also need to bring back the scoring system and stuff like the cone challenges so pretty much just upgraded graphics.

An old school SSX with huge jumps would be good.

I'd love a new PGR but racing as a genre just isn't hot right now - apart from Forza Horizon 3 and GT Sport nothing has hit big recently and they aren't popular with streamers etc, certainly compared to stuff like pubg. The mid 2000s was a highpoint off the back of the popularity of F&F but so many franchises have just died on the vine since.

I agree, but I think the problem is that mario kart sells and the rest aren't as accessible, so from a business sense, why shouldn't they stick with what's popular and makes them mad dollar?

Use Mario Kart's massive success to fund the development and awareness of the lesser franchises?

Good call, SoK! Even though I love playing Pro Evo, I wish that a decent "arcadey" football game still existed. ISS was superb.

Oh, no doubt. The N64 1080, F-Zero and Wave Race all sold decently, around the 1m-3m but I don’t think any of their GameCube entries broke the 1m mark.

I’d love to see Nintendo take the F-Zero GX approach and work with third parties but it doesn’t seem like the appetite even for that is there.

This is what I dislike most about Nintendo, they're really innovative and take risks with new hardware concepts yet when it comes to their 1st party games they continually rely on Mario, Zelda and Pokemon games which they release at a snails pace, there's loads of other Nintendo IPs that could be brought to a new audience yet they just won't take the risk.

They could even license stuff out to external devs, look at how well Metroid Prime turned out when they gave Retro the chance to update the series (the less said about Other M the better).

Advance Wars.

Intelligent Systems are focused on Fire Emblem at the moment since it's selling really well, but I hope they don't give up on AD. The producer said that they'd like some sort of relationship mechanic like in Fire Emblem (which has gotten really popular in the modern games in part because of how expansive its gotten) but that they're not sure how to implement it yet. If that's what it takes to give the series life again, then I don't mind. My main issue with it in Awakening/Fates was that much of the support dialogue ranged from uninteresting to awful. It didn't help that they had to write for so many different pairings, some of which didn't really make much sense. It could be alright though.

I loved both Dual Strike and Dark Conflict so I don't mind which kind of direction they decide to continue with. I'd say I prefer Dual Strike just a bit more, and if the next game is going to draw inspiration from Fire Emblem's success then it's probably going to take the DS route. A more cartoony iteration with a bit more of an anime art style.
