Yeah, a few reviews I've read indicated that the update isn't overly dramatic; it looks very nice but probably not sixty quid-nice. Definitely something I'll watch for a price drop, though.

I think it looks incredible. No way it’s £60 worth. Doesn’t have the replay of say RE2/3 remakes.

Are the side missions new? Especially with "Can't progress until X occurs"? Don't recall them

Narratively there seem to be a few more earlier hints about what's up

I can't recall - do you back track to areas organically or should I be remembering where all this security doors are?

I think most of the back tracking is new including security doors. The game seems to love randomly locking doors and blocking off access to areas you've been to though so the one time I tried it it was a massive pain in the arse. 4 chapters in I've only found 1 side quest and the game wouldn't let me progress it so I'm not really sure how much side stuff there is.

Patch incoming for VRS but framerate is getting battered on PS5 in performance mode, it has to be a bug as it’s hitting 40-55 and SX is locked 60. Unless some RDNA 2 stuff is happening that’s a wide margin.

Pretty sure side quests were just a DS3 thing.

Does your security clearance reset when you upgrade the suit? I've previously had level 1 and 2 but since loading my current save it now says 0. I don't understand how that's happened?

My missions and side missions menu is also blank. I think something has strawberry floated my save file.

Edit: Had to reload an old save to fix it.

I started this today. So far played 3 hours on easiest setting. It looks good and I enjoy the combat and atmosphere. The game is as good as I remember it and it makes me want to watch Event Horizon, Ghosts of Mars and Doom (maybe not Doom)

Fully upgraded my plasma cutter, decided to just stick to that for first play through. Closing in on the end I think, about three quarters of the way through the game.

I’ve encountered quite a few bugs and technical issues in this. On 2 occasions I’ve had to kill myself or load previous saves because the intended path forward through the game hasn’t unlocked properly leave the game in a state where I can’t progress. There’s also not an insignificant amount of juddering when going through doors and the general jank.

It’s certainly less robust than Callisto Protocol was on that front.

And finished. Just over 8 hours. A very enjoyable game but I have no real urge to play through again like I would with a resident evil game.

The exact opposite is reported from Digital Foundry and most reviews but ok Captain.

I'm at 12 hours. I'm playing on Hard and have died a fair amount and done a lot of backtracking. I think it's definitely a step behind RE games design wise. Even the much maligned RE3R I would say is superior. As I mentioned earlier the thing I've been most disappointed by is how familiar it is. Having not played the original since it came out I would have thought it would feel more fresh. I think it's just missing that sense that I'm exploring a place for the first time, without that you're just kind of being led from one not very interesting combat encounter to the next. It's undoubtedly a better game than Calisto Protocol but as flawed as that was at least it was original.

I really hope RE4R doesn't end up feeling like this, because if I start that and within minutes am feeling like I've done this all before it'll be very disappointing.

And finished. 15 hours.

Enjoyed it but ultimately felt rather shallow because of how familiar it all felt.

This game certainly is a bit janky.

It's designed in a way that is quite open but if you don't go exactly where you're meant to go there's scripting glitches basically any time there's a human NPC.

I ventured towards the baby area before I was asked to then when I went back the NPC that is meant to be killed was just T-posing there.

I've seen similar examples with other NPCs as well.

Having said that really been enjoying the game. Improves on the original a ton. It's bonkers to me how good the UI is in this game and we still get gooseberry fool like Hogwarts Legacy all these years later

I don't get why companies spend so much time creating such immersive worlds if they're gonna take you out of the experience every 5 seconds with giant obtrusive UI elements that never disappear.

More games really should have in game UIs at this point. Especially ones with sci fi or magic.

Even something as simple as borderlands 2.

I finished this over the weekend. It’s very very good. But, it’s the original with a big lick of paint that looks amazing. The extra graphical and sound design means they can really increase the tension and jump scares. The weapons few excellent and you are forced to use more.

I had no interest in side quests or back tracking. But yeah, loved it.

Did the centrifuge section have a check point before?

Because thank god as that's some BS

I know right. Why did they feel the need to make the timing so damn tight?

I basically finished this too.

It's really really good.

My only real complaint is the jump scare after the credits is appallingly bad compared to the original.

Going so well but then unkillable enemy appears to hoover up all your ammo
