Am I right in thinking this game is like a big bombers notebook?

I’ve done the first stage. Wanted to do some side activities but beyond having the notes putting them in my diary it doesn’t seem like I can do anything yet.

Feels like I could really love this but at the moment I still haven’t really latched on to it.

Really getting into this now. Love the narratives scattered around and that despite what an intricate clockwork set of mechanics and stories it all is, that it does a great job of making sure you’re following along.

I know it’s something the Dishonoured team is known for (this is them right), but the level design really is fantastic. Nothings overly large but there are so many clever paths that all loop round so the moment you start to feel lost you round a corner and find the main path. Despite the fact that it’s not a graphical show piece it is reassuringly solid and has a nice visual style. The interactability in the environment is really cool too. Nice to have coming off something like Village which although beautiful is like walking around a painting.

Glad you're enjoying it!

And yeah it's from the team behind the Dishonored games, they definitely know how to put a good level together!

I started this tonight and did about an hour before jumping on battlefield. It’s been out a while, but it repeatedly crashed at start up from steam (afterburner related).

Once into it, I’m on the third area of the tutorial. It’s very linear at the minute but I like the comic book style wording pop up in the environment ‘don’t go there yet’ but it’s strange some elements can’t be picked up (I had to google the shiny objects for it to say ignore for now).

I’ll stick with it and see how it opens out. Feels a little overwhelming.

So made it to the end of my first proper day.

Managed to kill 3 of them but have discovered quite a bit to improve next time. Would like to do more side stuff but it's not really clear what I'm supposed to do for any of it so far.

I'm really enjoying how everything interconnects but the fact it's all level based is a bit of a detriment to really feeling like you're in a timeloop I think. I find instead of feeling like I'm getting stuff done in one day it feels more like I'm repeating stages. It also kind of leads to a lack of jeopardy as I never really feel at risk of dying or that I'm playing against a Clock.

This throws a lot at you. It’s overwhelming. I’ve just completed the tutorial and how to infuse, and gather the shimmer material. Thinking I will avoid the visionaries for now but follow the arsenal stuff for the abilities, pick one for each time period, explore and pick up 4 on the day, then reset, maybe get some visionaries or more abilities on day 2. Unless of course I die on the way…

Yeah there's a fair amount to take in on the first few runs but I think it breaks it down about as well as can be expected given how many things they're trying to teach the player during the first narrative lead.

Before long it all starts to make sense.

Yeh I’m fully in love with this now. Learning about the characters and finding out their patterns and why they’re going to be in certain places at certain times is great. The level design is impeccable as well so layered and interesting. Hadn’t realised there was a whole environment I’d not been to because the others feel so chunky.

I’m past the point of it feeling overwhelming but didn’t find it too bad because it really does try to help you keep up. Only think they maybe could have hurried you through the first learning phase quicker as you can spend a lot of time wandering around not being able to do stuff for no need really

Starting to click now. Got a couple of weapons infused and I’ve got loads of leads to follow up, it’s about selecting which ones. Maps are subtlety different each time, and I find out a bit more different each pass through.

The game is hinting at grouping visionaries together but I am just going to keep picking up the nuggets and see what emerges.

Speaking of maps it would be nice if they had one which wasn't useless

Yeah. Agree with this. I can look at it, but it would be nice if they marked it. But the maps are small enough that even with a couple of passes through I have a reasonable understanding. Be nice if they did show you areas you have not been to though…. Something like resident evil remakes/village.

The maps are perfect!

It's enough detail and information for you to understand layouts, orientation and gain a feel for each space but not OTT so there's still an element of player discovery and self familiarisation

Did my first effort at the party infiltration tonight. Not sure I’m a fan. I find this with a lot of games where I love the slowly slowly build up low key stuff really enjoyable. But when it has the big bombastic end bit where everything is supposed to come together in a grander scale it loses focus and I lose patience.

Made it through with some more clues and have plenty more to do before I give the full run a go.

There are multiple scripted and stealthy ways to kill Alexis at the party, worth taking some time to find them! More than one way into the area as well.

Killing absolutely everyone there can be fun too though

Yeah like everything in the game it's still very much up to you how you tackle it - following the clues to enact one of the more "staged" solutions can be really fun, but finding your own approach (including going on a murder spree! ) is just as valid, and often more fun. Chaos is good!

Found the beer one first time round, and got him when he went to investigate. Looking forward to finding more ways.

I've had a real go at this the last few days, and I love it. Its incredibly fun, and very, very clever what Arkane have done. Its not quite as open as you 1st expect, but there are very many intersecting liner paths and pulling this all together must have been a huge task.

Its a real breath of fresh air from linear shooters or stealth games, with the brilliant Arkane powers thrown in. I skipped Dishonoured 2 (loved the 1st) so might go there next.

My only gripe is optimising it on PC as it refused to work with afterburner. I get very high FPS so its smooth, i just dont know how high and therefore whether i can improve image quality.

A couple of images, 1 from a tricky puzzle that took a while to solve.

Oh, and question for Jenuall.

Spoiler related to killing fia and charlie.

I've got them both at the pump house and i can get to the switch without being spotted to flood the pump house. But, no idea how to get back out again without losing a life, and i couldn't get in to get their slab upgrades

Is it normal for ultra widescreen to not put the HUD elements on the edges of the screen? I've never owned a setup like that, is it actually better to play if the HUD stays more in the middle?
