That Gamecentral review seems a bit of an exception, glowing praise elsewhere.

I've not heard of this game. Why are there no trailers doing the rounds?

Gamecentral seem to be the new EDGE.

I like the look and sound of this, but i have to remaind myself i have never actually enjoyed playing an Arkane game....

Maybe there will be a copy going for sale on the cheap here and i can pick it up then.

Why not out of curiosity? I've never actually played one, but definitely got my eye on this for the future.

It's hard to explain. I think it's that there are loads and loads of options available to you, but only a small number of them are ever required, so it's very easy to get in to a comfort zone and then begrudge the game not making you use all the systems more. Reading that Gamecentral one since last posting, I can see they have flagged up the same problem here (weapon balancing leading to you becoming over reliant on a particular load out).

I know we should be old enough and sensible enough to try and mix things up anyway, but if something works and is easy, it's very hard to break the cycle.

My copy just arrived so I've got it installing.

I'll maybe stream some of this tonight instead of Metroid, but we'll see what happens.

Ordered it as my girlfriend wants to play it, but I won't get to it myself until I've beaten NEOTWEWY. Means we won't be contesting PS5 time at least!

Sounding really good. Reminds me I need to play Dishonored 2 still though :shifty:

Gamecentral was actually created by Edge editor Tony Mott.

That checks out.

Gamecentral actually are my review outlet of choice, but they do seem to be straying further and further from general critical opinion. The last 3 months or so they have regularly been the outlier review for some of the more prominent games.

Main takeaway I've seen is to immediately turn off markers and work stuff out yourself.

Will probably pick this up at some point but in no real rush.

Good advice for all of these types of game.

Hell, most games these days whether they're FPS or open world affairs are made worse by having so many markers and guidance IMO

Just catching up on the GameCentral chat here, I was kinda thinking that they had *destroyed* the game... not given it a [7] . As is tradition in gaming for new releases, let's now issue some death threats to GameCentral on Twitter ;) .

I feel the same and like you, I can't put my finger on why. I'm talking about Dishonored 1 and 2 here, both of which I played for some time and both of which I really didn't enjoy. There reviews are so good for this that I might have to pick it up, but not at full price.

The problem is if missions are designed around the crutch of objective markers, turning them off can leave you lost if there isn't sufficient direction given in addition to the markers themselves. So unfortunately it's not always good advice to turn them off!

True, although I struggle to think of a time that's been a problem for me in an Arkane game thankfully
