The method of getting two targets to the same party sounds almost Hitman like - although I can't tell from the trailer if you have any player autonomy over that kind of thing or whether it's just a plot point you have to do.

Last night's trailer made this seem a lot more fun.

Dishonored mixed with Majora's Mask?

Sounds like this is my dream game! :toot:

Genuinely more excited for this than anything else that's coming up. Everything about it appeals to me. The Prey "Mooncrash" DLC showed that Arkane could bring something interesting by combining the strengths of their Immersive Sim games with the current trend for "Roguelike" experiences and this looks like they've pushed that further to achieve something even more unique.

Deathloop is confirmed to be a 4K/60FPS at launch on PlayStation 5, launches Q2 and is a one year console exclusive.

New info page How to take out your targets.

Colt doesn’t have an easy life. Or, more accurately, he’s not having an easy day. Probably because that day keeps looping, leaving him trapped in an endless cycle of violence on an island full of eccentric partygoers with a flair for the dramatic and itchy trigger-fingers. They all want him dead and he just wants out, but in order to get out, he’ll have to kill the 8 “Visionaries” responsible for keeping the timeloop going. If he can manage that, he can break the loop and finally escape the island of Blackreef. Eight targets, all spread out across an entire island, and just one day to kill them all. Time to get to work.

YOU VS. THE WORLD (OR AT LEAST THE ISLAND OF BLACKREEF)
On Blackreef, time is both meaningless and the most important thing in the world. The clock is always ticking in the back of your mind, but you can repeat the loop as many times as you need to get it right. Good, because you’re going to need that time if you’re going to uncover the secrets of Blackreef. Of course, traversing the island won’t be easy, due to the fact that everyone on the island wants you dead, but don’t let that little issue get in your way.

With four unique districts breaking up the island, and four segments of the day to explore, you can tackle any area of Blackreef at any time as you pick up clues and learn more about your targets. The districts are open, like what you might remember from Dishonored, but unlike Dishonored they aren’t tied to levels and can be openly explored whenever you want.
Each of these districts have their own stories that will play out throughout the day, whether you’re there to see them or not, and these stories could have an impact on the layout of the district as the day progresses. Because of this, some areas might only be accessible at certain points of day. Similarly, some of the Visionaries might only be accessible at certain times. That’s why you’ll need to use the timeloop to study them and pay attention to their routines. As you saw in the trailer, it is possible to get them to leave their “comfort zones” and move to other areas of the island, but you’ll have to find all the right levers to pull in order to make that happen.

And that’s key to solving the murder puzzle of DEATHLOOP. It will be impossible to take all of the Visionaries out in one day if you try to do it one-by-one. You’ll have to move them around like pieces on a game board until the puzzle comes together in one beautiful loop of death.

Hopefully this will be a big hit for Arkane. I always feel like their games deserve a bigger audience.

Agreed, they're probably my favourite currently active developer so I'd love to see them get more recognition for their work.

I love timeloop stories so I'm pretty sure this will be a day one purchase for me.

Do I buy this on launch or wait out the year and get it on gamepass?

"Me too!". I am just a wee bit concerned that, as with other Bethesda (Zenimax) developers, they'll move to Xbox-only development once the already-in-place contracts are completed. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's hard to know exactly how it will play out but I think this is what will happen sadly. As long as their games all come to PC I don't personally care but I would feel for any PS fans missing out.

I just hope their retain the autonomy to make the kinds of games they want to and don't feel too much pressure to chase sales by changing too much.

More hopeful than the 1st trailer as it looks fun but still concerned by the roguelike nature.

Depresses me immensely that this thread has only two pages of posts.

It still looks great, and I don't think it's very "rouguelite" as it's not procgen right? It's the same setup you are learning through repetition, you wouldn't call Majora's Mask a roguelite and the setup seems more similar to that.

I can understand if people are just fundamentally against repetition in any form, exploration, discovery and story are often what people are interested in and they can be hard to master in a setup like this. But then at the same time what are most games when boiled down but just a repeated set of mechanics?

I think Arkane have good form at producing content that stands up to replaying and it seems like they have done a good job of building that concept into the core of the game here rather than just being lazy about it. It seems like they learned a lot from the Prey DLC Mooncrash which explored similar concepts of melding Immersive Sim and Rougelike elements.

I'm hugely excited for this - it has so much style to it and Arkane are comfortably my favourite developer of the last decade so I have faith in them to have produced another slice of fried gold.
