Can't believe Taf keeps comparing this to Luigi's Mansion. Just let it go

Yeah Disney's Frozen is a much better reference point.

Anna sacrificing herself to save Elsa but then coming back from the dead through this act of love toward her formerly distant sister is very much like the themes of restoring connection between life and death in this game.

So, is Death Stranding the good new game to hate?

Cool, cool.

One thing I don't understand is how the strand system works in practice. If players can leave items and build roads, won't that mean that if you pick the game up 6 months from the now the map will be littered with helpful pick-ups and shortcuts for traversal? Or is what appears in your game linked to how far you are in the story? For example, if you load the game up and there are already pre-made bridges across all the rivers and set trails to take up all the mountains, then that completely negates what appears to be the main gameplay mechanic of traversal and finding your way across the landscape.

This is a good question, it definitely needs to be balanced appropriately.

The "shared" universe stuff in games like Dark Souls only links up players who are actively online at the same time I believe (I think you only see messages from other players that are actually playing right now etc.) so maybe they will do something similar here?

If you don't like the game then review it, score the game accordingly and move on. This is nothing but attention seeking twaddle from a magazine hardly anyone buys any more. Edge gonna Edge

I don't really get the problem myself.

They can't score the game because they were told they HAD to finish it first, so they're publishing their thoughts without a score and will give it the final review and score when they have finished the game.

What's the problem exactly?

When Edge review the game, if at all, isn't a problem, but the Tweets from the editor is just typical of Edge and the high-and-mighty opinion the magazine has of itself. Truly a case of 'get over yourselves'.

I expect there's a lot of rules based on how long the review has to be, what it should cover etc etc. Would probably end up being mostly the same stuff as that four-page preview he mentioned just taking up space in another issue for the sake of having a score at the end.

Isn't that top Tweet suggesting they're not gonna score it in the next issue either?

Yes but nothing says that they won't score it when they can. They will have a schedule full of other titles to review already lined up for the next issue so they can't guarantee they'll fit DS in if it means those others won't get the time they need.

I'd have thought completing a game before writing a review was the norm rather than the exception?

Only if the game drastically changes from beginning to end or is story heavy. I think after 5-10 hours you will have a pretty good idea of how much you like a game.

I took the tone of his comment to mean "we're never going to bother finishing it", maybe I'm misreading it though.

Sounds like the preview is the review in all but name and number

The whole tone is "we're better than everyone else so nah!". Thing is, pretty much everyone else has managed to put out a review, good and bad. So other than having their collective heads jammed firmly up their backsides what's Edge's problem?

I think the answer is quite obvious. They're no longer as relevant a publication as they once were and have used this opportunity to remind anyone who still cares that they still exist. Painfully transparent and utterly lame.
