Trying to stay mostly black out on this. But couldn't help watching the Gamescom stuff. I love how Kojima gives us a taste of what to expect without really even showing much. Can't wait to spend a weekend to just deep dive into this game.

Just looks a bit weird and boring to me, yet to see anything from any of these videos that makes me think "wow I really need to play this".

Ho-hum.

Looks bobbins tbh but I hated MSG 2 & (what I played of) 3. 5 was great for first few hours then descended into a grind.

Judging the footage for the gameplay it showed is missing the point. It's a fair criticism to say you're not excited for the game because you haven't seen any convincing gameplay, but at the same time that's not the intention of their marketing. The trailer's aren't made to demonstrate what it's like to play the game, they're meant to confuse and intrigue, and to have people theorising over the game, its setting and its story.

I'm enjoying the ride for what it is. If you would rather have some actual game impressions, you're probably going to have to wait until the game comes out.

Nah man, it's not a joke for the people watching, it's a joke at their expense. Kojima hyped up the gamescom trailer then opens it with a man pissing. He's literally taking the piss.

I spent my lunchtime watching all trailers for this and the gameplay last night, I don't get the game at all.

I’m the same. Maybe you will once you play the game.

But then it took me years to understand what’s going on in MGS2.

This might be the first time I don't pre-order a Kojima game.

Is this just basically a vanity project for Kojima and his mates?

From the moment Sony handed him their chequebook it was never going to be anything else.

For better or worse no-one makes games like Kojima does and it's always an experience getting to play them. Can't wait.

I stand by that statement, but realise now it was the pre-gameplay nonsense that really wound me up. Is there anyone who actually finds the Kojima-Keighley thing funny apart from Keighley himself? And the portryal of Kojima as some sort of auteur god is becoming unbearable now. People scoff when David Cage presents himself as such a figure but lap it up when Kojima does the same. I actually find it quite nauseating, especially knowing there's a huge team behind him getting nearly zero recognition.

The gameplay footage was actually shite too though, regardless of its intent. I'm aware Kojima has a a history of incredibly straight faced pisstaking but it just came off as arrogance this time; "Here's a guy sleeping and pissing, eat it up plebs."

I don't think I really disagree with any of that, apart from finding it much more entertaining than you do. The difference between David Cage and Kojima for me is how much I enjoy the games they have made (well, I have enjoyed David Cage games, but only in a so-bad-it's-good way). Peter Molyneux is a better comparison for me because I also find his approach entertaining and endearing like Kojima's, even while recognising how ridiculous it can be, and think he has made some genuinely interesting games.

My reaction to Keighley appearing in-game was "for strawberry float's sake", but I did find it funny - funny in a "this has clearly gone too far" way.

I do think opening with a man pissing was straight faced pisstaking for the most part, but then it's also a bit like seeing feet in a Tarantino movie - Kojima has a weird obsession with toilet humour (along with tight butts) that's just kind of funny for its prevalence, rather than its actual content.

At least Kojima has made some genuinely brilliant games.

Metal Gear Solid 1 and 3 are legit masterpieces. 2, 4 and 5 are still great games that would be more impressive were it not for 1 and 3 showing everyone how good it can be.
