The only truly great one is MGS1. MGS3 has a great plotline, but I don't really like the gameplay a lot of the time.

He was recruitable as a character in Peace Walker before that, and he is in Phantom Pain also. So it's not just Ground Zeroes ;)

Personally I think it's great though. Finding the game director hidden in the back of a truck that random soldier dialogue has directed you towards as they mention rumours of a god being around is exactly what I want from MGS.

Both MGS1 and Twin Snakes are worth playing imo

Some of the tapes in Peace Walker are excellent

Uh, what now?

Thief (and other immersive sims) is clearly the starting point that leads to Dishonored.

Re-watched the trailers for this so far and still think it's got strong potential to be either fantastic or complete shite in almost equal measure!

That's my perspective too, Jenuall. There are gonna be some self-indulgent aspects but I'm excited about the potential; I'm hoping that the gameworld will be big and home to lots of quirky, interesting stuff.

I was super tired when I wrote that. Utter nonsense.

(although were there any stealth games before Metal Gear? Like, the original? I've no idea)

Fair enough!

And as a stealth game/series that was wildly successful it does make sense that MGS would have had some influence over Dishonored.

The original Castle Wolfenstein had pretty heavy stealth elements, and some submarine games had it as well - avoiding detection by enemy sonar etc. (this type of submarine gameplay was actually something that Looking Glass spent a lot of time thinking about in the design phase for Thief!) but it was a fairly limited genre that's for sure! There's probably a few more examples of it being used as part of a game (being able to sneak up on enemies in Doom for example) but not as a core focus.

I really don't think this game is for me as I see nothing in that trailer to be interested in.

I just watched some of that - not all, because I'm wary of learning too much about the plot and openworld at this stage - and I'm still well on-board with this. Mysterious, quirky and with exploration... right up my street!

It could turn out to be lousy and dull, of course, but I'm intrigued to see such an apparently off-the-wall title launching amongst a sea of safer games in the end-year period.

My thoughts exactly. It might be amazing, but I remain unconvinced by anything I've seen so far.

I watched the trailer the other day and it actually looked pretty good and was the only thing I've seen so far of this game that actually made any sense.
As for the gameplay still rather unsure, I think when it hits the reaction from critics and gamers will be all over the place.

This has gone over about as well as you'd expect with the game dev community.

I’m sure the development team, who he confirmed were working in crunch mode last month, are delighted to learn they don’t need to bother anymore because he’s doing everything.

Hideo has always loved the smell of his own farts. He's the Japanese Randy Pitchford.
