My only rating lower than cargo condition is delivery time :datass:

How much stealth is there in this game? I'm seriously considering picking it up, but i have realized i hate (and am also rubbish at) stealth. I have been trying to play MGS5. Cant complete the first mission. And i have tried about 10 times. I just don't like the whole swinging the camera round to check FOV's etc. Its just not for me, and the first time it goes wrong i just get very frustrated. I think the Arkham games are the limit of acceptability (and i love them). Is there a lot of this in DS? I love the idea of inventory management and a plodding pace, its just the hiding, creeping, getting caught, restarting aspect that puts me off.

Would i be better off picking it up when the price comes down, or is that part of the game pretty minimal?

So far for me it's definitely a minority of the game. You also don't have to engage with it - getting caught won't fail you and force you to do it again as you can combat your way out of the situation. Sneaking past BTs is also more horror-stealth where FOV isn't important as they react to sound - it's more like dealing with clickers in The Last Of Us if you've played that. That said, if you find stealth painfully frustrating to even appear as a mechanic then yes, it does happen.

aye it's definitely not stealth-heavy like the MGS games. No FOV enemy cones or anything like that. Stealth vs humans basically amounts to "are you in their line of sight" and vs BTs you won't get noticed as long as you stay crouched while moving and don't walk directly into one.

I managed to hijack a mule’s van.

But a second later, his mates threw an electric prod and promptly ejected me into a pack of mules. :slol:

The combat is a bit wonky while facing a group of mules. But managed to stranded them with my handy piece of rope.

Just wish I can kick their sensors until it’s broken. How do you get past the poles? I managed to sneak past them but as soon I’m way ahead of them they pinged me.

Perhaps I should pack a bola gun next time and decoy cases.

Finished this last night. Some general thoughts on the game, no character details etc but spoilered in case.
There's a good 10-15 hour period after Chapter 3 starts where I legit thought this was going to be one of my favourite games ever. The asynchronous co-op working so well in terms of creating an environment where I was so happy not just to explore the interesting new areas but to get them on the network and see what other people had built to help each other. I recall one delivery where I was being chased by some Mules with some valuable cargo only to spot an extremely helpful bridge, then discovering it was actually mine I'd placed down several hours earlier. The flaws in terms of the gameplay loop being a little repetitive don't really matter because the whole thing just feels so satisfying and relaxing. The general idea, along with some little flourishes and details really does feel like Kojima at his best.

But then I got into what I thought was the ending of the game. And it kept going. And going. And going. The interesting biomes I'd been discovering were replaced by one that was, while beautiful to look at, a real slog to trek across, to the point I lost the vast majority of fun I was having from the delivery process. I soon became disinterested in doing any extra jobs aside from the main story ones, in order to try and push through to get the game back on track and what I found was Kojima at his worst.

There are literal hours of cutscenes in the final third of the game and while they are wonderfully rendered with some great acting performances, there's just so much to get through, to the point that the amount of gameplay you actually have feels secondary to Kojima explaining everything, slowly and with the subtlety of a sledgehammer. The boss fights you're subjected to in this final stretch are not good and several of them are merely just bullet sponges without any real danger.

It's very disappointing because there was the potential for something special here and there are still sections that are absolutely fantastic. When a game has such a slow opening and bad final third, it's tough to think too highly of it though.

I don't think I can recommend it.

Haven't read your spoiler as I'm still on Chapter 3 of the game. Would you not recommend it because you didn't enjoy the general gameplay loop? Or because of the direction the game takes later on? I'm really enjoying this at the moment but as I say I'm still early on so I'm hoping it retains its quality throughout.

Well I would recommend playing this along with another game.

Overall I think it’s a fantastic game but I can see myself getting bored quickly if I played it continuously.

And I’m not surprised at the amount of cutscenes seeing it’s a Kojima game. Sometimes I think Kojima need a guy who say: “Stop.”

Up to Episode 5 now. Finally completed the road all the way down to South Knot City. Although the odd few had some materials donated, it seemed like I did 90% of the work myself. I definitely completed (as in donated the final materials) the majority of the pavers. Is this the same for everyone? I guess it would be quite easy if there was too much collaboration on the roadworks and you could end up with most of it being built for you.

In the second region, I built one road to completion and then when I came back, the whole top right of that region have roads already.

Also how do you get time ranking to climb I made a delivery in less than 2 minutes thanks to the road and the trike and I didn’t get any ranking boost for the time. :(

Spoilers for chapter 5 and start of Chapter 6 - setting up a zipline network in the mountains is incredibly satisfying for some strange reason. My only issue is that as I set up the roboticist and doctor on the chiral network with lost cargo before the story demands it, I already had ziplines set up when picking up Mama from her lab. What I think was supposed to be an epic journey back up the mountain with Mama took me about 2 minutes on a zipline  I even had to stop for a couple of minutes before entering Mountain Knot City because Mama hadn't finished all her dialogue.

The gameplay loop of this is dangerously addictive. Think I might be around 30 hours and in episode 3 still too. No signs of burn out or tedium. I'm absolutely captivated by Death Stranding so far. As someone who loves playing it slow and methodical, this game speaks to me in many ways.

Also there's one bridge I placed somewhere in early game that has been getting nonstop likes and it never fails to feel satisfying logging on and seeing Ive jumped like 13k likes out of nowhere lol >,>

Chapter 5:

Ziplines baby yeah! :datass:

I've managed to created a series of ziplines that connect me around the South Knot to the Mid Knot area, by connecting every 250m to 300m, linking up to remote areas and also bypassing the Mules camp. Going to create a network of ziplines around the middle section.

I have discovered that you can’t just put them all up nillywilly, as the bandwidth wouldn’t let you.

So far a lot of people have been using my zip lines. Where the strawberry float are theirs? Ungrateful bastards. :slol:
